I checked the box on the buttom of the task manager "show processes for all users" and now it's on the list...

is that correct that it's using another account (postgres)? and how do i change permissions on it to make it an admin account? I dont see it on the list under User Accounts.. (running Windows 7 Ultimate)

No worries about the postgres account. That's working just fine.
Just a wild guess but it's probably using a non-admin account for increased security (if your sql server gets broken into the guy won't have admin rights). Someone smarter then me, please correct/confirm... :)

Yes, it will always use the 'postgres' user, and I think you're right about the permissions thing.
Kraada knows much more about this stuff and he should be on later and will answer your questions.
If we can't get everything sorted out via the forum then you can schedule a remote assistance session where someone can logon to your computer with you and directly troubleshoot/resolve the issue, but it does sound like it's working, at least?

yes, remote assistance would be great!

yes, housekeeping is working but it took 14 hours to complete..

i agree about the permissions.. weird things are happening.. the process never went beyond 1%..

on the laptop, however, during housekeeping, postgres.exe is all over the place (10%-40%)... and its working beautifully.

Kraada.. please chime in..

I think that 'postgres' is just a 'normal' user, so won't be members of any group, although again Kraada will probably be able to give you more info later.

I'm thinking adding the acct to administrator group doesn't hurt.

Maybe a windows 7 issue? Do you guys have any win7 machines in your "test lab"?

I don't personally (other than the Windows 7 beta in a virtual machine, but I haven't used it much) but someone from the management team has been using Windows 7 for several months now with no problems.

So I'm thinking of creating 2nd db (for testing) , adding postgres to admin group, importig say 150k hands and checking if postgres process works ok during clustering process. But i'll wait for kraada to chime in. Maybe he'll even connect to take a look....

Kraada.. Where are you? :)

He's only working late today - I think he's due in about 4 or 5 hours.
