My HD having problems...how to get to my hand history

Postby enafonja » Wed Oct 21, 2009 8:46 am

Hi,

My HD experienced some problems probably damaged so when i start windows it has really difficulties to load the desktop fully so at some point it cycles...
When i was assuming that the hd is having problems i exported all of my hands from pt3 but for some reason the first months of playing poker were not exported...can i somehow export these hands from the HD because when i make this HD as a external HD it works quite normaly so i am able to get the files from it...so probably the part when windows are located must be somehow damaged.

with kind regards,
Peter

The first thing to check would be to see if you left PT3 moving hands to your processed folder and if those files are there and intact. Please look in the Program Files/PokerTracker 3/Processed/ directory and see if you see those files there.

That's going to make things a bit more complicated.

What you're going to want to do is to install PostgreSQL on the computer that has the external hard drive attached. You'll want to install using the pgInstaller available on PostgreSQL's website (you'll want version 8.3.8). During the installation, you can choose where you want PostgreSQL installed to - choose the PostgreSQL directory on the external drive. When you get to the section that has a checkbox for initializing database cluster, uncheck that box.

PostgreSQL should install after that, and if the database was not damaged, you should be able to connect to it in PT3 and then export the hands out of that database. I highly recommend exporting hands from that database, and then not using that hard drive - once a drive has proven to be unstable, you really don't want to store your data on it long term.

Once you have the data exported, uninstall PostgreSQL, then reinstall it located elsewhere, then reimport the data you just exported.

Hi,

First of all I have uninstalled postgresql from the laptop and installed the sugested version of 8.3.8 as you suggested on the new laptop and then browsing to the external (damaged one) HD c:program files/postgres
folder and install it...i unchecked the checkbox for initializing database cluster and then finshed the instalation...i started PT3 but the window pop ups for configuring postgresql database...i try to browse to my DB but it gives me an error like:-------------------unable to login to database (template1). Reason:could not connect to server etc...if i try to create a new DB it gives me the same sort of error "Unable to connect to PostgreSQL database: PT3_2009_10_28_124446
Reason: Unable to login to database (PT3_2009_10_28_124446). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432? "
Then i thought that the problem was in different postgres version on external drive..i saw that it was one of the 8.2 versions so i installed the 8.2.14 version but the problem persisted.
What do you suggest?

regards,
Peter

You definitely need to be running the same major version number of PostgreSQL in order to have a compatible database (so in this case you need 8.2 installed). That error though implies that PostgreSQL isn't actually running properly. The easiest thing will probably be for you to request a remote session so that we can work through the situation together and get it fixed interactively.
