Attn: Vista Users Installing PostgreSQL 8.3

Disregard my last post. I was being stupid and not reading everything correctly. I was trying to download an old version, not hitting continue like I should of.

im having seriouse difficulties w the install of postgresql
i went to postgresql.org ver 8.3.5zip
saved to file created new click and dragged to new file, open and "run" the installer
all goes well until im prompted to put in a password which after all posts im certian its svcpass
it says som bs like blah blah bad password...
i disabled uac control, turned off my firewall, done everything
i cant go to file and chand md5 to trust as i havnt been able to download w/o the password
please help

It appears there is a compatibility issue with installing PostgreSQL 8.3 on some Microsoft Vista machines. If you encounter the "Failed to initdb" error message you may need to install PostgreSQL 8.2.7 until the developers at PostgreSQL are able to resolve this issue. Below is a download link:

PostgreSQL 8.2.7

Download the above file. Unzip it then run the file named "postgresql-8.2.msi".

Note: Remember the password you enter for the username "postgres".

Can someone provide an answer to the Postgresql problem with Vista and IE8?

The previous directions for reinstalling only speak of 8.3.5(+) and the site links for 8.2.7 are broken.
This problem has been ongoing for 24 hours now and it really effecting my poker play time.

So far I have been able to uninstall Postgresql 8.3.x and a second Postgre folder, but now I cannot find the version 8.2.7 to downloaded (zipped or unzipped).

8.3.8 should be working properly in Vista as far as I am aware - give that version a try.
