Importing database from old PC question

Postby buzzd » Thu Dec 24, 2009 12:22 am

PT is working fine on my new mac. My question is how to import the hand histories from my old pc, Before the pc died i backed-up and copied to a key drive. My question is which file do I import. One file on the key drive is named "processed", another is "pokertracker 3 database backup", and a number of others. ?

OK, I went ahead and took a shot> I manually imported PT3 database.backup and got an error message "unrecognized file format".

You can't import a database backup, but you should be able to Restore it using the File > Restore option.
If that doesn't work, you can do a Manual Import of your 'processed' folder.

Restoring from a backup would overwrite the existing database so you are best off restoring into a new blank database.

So how do I do this? (I couldn't find an answer when I did a search.) I have the hands I've played since I went to the mac, plus the hands from the PC on the key drive. I went to database/database/management/restore/pokertracker3database.backup/open/restorenow. This is where i get the question "would you like to overwrite?". I answer no and I can't go any further. What do I do now?

At the Database Management window click New, create a new database, and set it as Active (using the Set Active button), then restore and say yes to overwrite (as it won't overwrite anything since there's no data in the new database to overwrite) and then your data will be restored into that new database.

I tried but got this: "Error: This database can not be destroyed.
Unable to execute query: DROP DATABASE "PT3 DB";; Reason: Fatal Error (ERROR: database "PT3 DB" is being accessed by other users DETAIL: There are 1 other session(s) using the database. )

Presumably you only have a few recent hands that are new and not in your backed up database, so overwriting the database isn't a problem. You will still have the new/recent hand history files in the 'processed' folder so once you have restored the database (and overwritten the existing database) you can re-import the new hands.
