PostgresSQL v8.3.7 installed; can I use it with PT Stud?

Postby QuickLearner » Wed Sep 30, 2009 5:40 pm

I installed the database a few months ago when I experimented with PT3. Today I bought PT Stud. Could someone point me to the instructions for setting up PT Stud so I can use the postgres database option? Is PT Stud compatible with postgresSQL 8.3.x? I've looked at the "convert a database" dialogs and instructions, but don't want to monkey around until I have some direction. Thanks for any help. I can always continue to use the Access database that I started with if the postgres option is troublesome.

I'm not certain if anyone else using PTS uses postgresSQL v8.3.7, but you can try to convert and if it isn't working you can always stick with the Access database. See the help link on the Conversion window for instructions. You can probably skip the part about installing PostgreSQL, but you'll need to provide the settings. Note: If the ODBC Entry to Use dropdown is empty, please see the 4th post of this thread for a solution:

Has it been determined yet if the Stud hands work with Postgre? I plan on changing my database for PT2 to Postgre, and would like to know if and how it will affect Stud hands. I will have the same question for Omaha hands also, in case anyone here knows the answer to that.

I don't know the procedure for converting to Postgre yet, so I don't even know if and how it affects all the hands, or if this question even makes sense in light of the way it works.

Where is this Conversion Window? It sounds like something important to know about.

PT Stud and Omaha work with PostgreSQL. Just make sure you use version 8.2 or 8.3. Do NOT use v8.4.

Where is this Conversion Window?

On the menu, Utilities > Convert Database...

Just to reconfirm: If I install the latest PostgreSQL 8.3 build (currently 8.3.9-1), will I be able to use it for both PTS and PT3? Didn't PTS used to require 8.2 for PostgreSQL databases?

I can't 100% confirm that PTS will work with 8.3.x versions of PostgreSQL since I have not tried it, but having said that I haven't heard from anyone that it doesn't work properly. I know it works fine with 8.2 and I know it doesn't work 100% with 8.4.

Is it ever going to be able to work with 8.4?

Possibly, but even so it's not going to be available soon.
