Right click on the system tray and click Task Manager, go to the Processes tab, do you see any postgres processes listed there? If not, try clicking Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> Start Service and see if you can connect PT3 then.

You may also need to set your firewall to allow PostgreSQL to run; see our Firewall Troubleshooting Guide for details on how to accomplish this for most major firewall software.

Hi! I don't see PostgreSQL in the process list. At my start menu i don't have the option "Start Service", just "Start server". But when I try that i get a message in a DOS box saying:

"Incorrect service name.
You can receive more help by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.
Press <return> to coninue".

Hmm ? Should i press return and it gets solved?

That sounds like PostgreSQL isn't installed properly; please reinstall it following the steps in this guide and that sould get everything working properly for you.

Thanks. I did all the step correctyl i think, the User account stuff and complete uninstallation of the previous version of PostresSQL. I've followed this guide all til the bottom of page 16 (initialize database cluster) where i stuck!. After typing dbpass twice in the dialouge fields i get this message "The 'Secondary Logon' servuce is not running. This service is required for the installer to initalize the database. Please start this service and try again".

I only have one Win 7 account, and It says administrator right under my name. I also did the uninstallation with the net... /delete DOS stuff and erased the catalogue.

Click Start, type services.msc and hit enter. Scroll down and find the Secondary Logon service from the list on the right. Right click it and click Properties. Start it now and set it to start automatically in the future. Then the install should complete properly.

Good, I can now pass to the next step but it is not installation complete as the guide sais. First it comes a box with the title "Enable procedural languages" were the default box PL/pgsql is checked, all the other ones are uncheckable. Then next box has the title "Enable contrib modules" and has a default box with Aminoack checked, there are several other boxes to check. When i click next it says "PostgreSQL is now ready to be installed" and I can go on with next. BUT! I haven't done this yet. I wanna make sure what to do with the to boxes I just described first.

OK. It did. But after installing for about 30 sec a Error message is shown: Internal account lookup failure: Mapping between account name and secure-ID has'nt been done (Translated from swedish). To press OK is my only option here so I did this. Then a new box with the topic "Fatal error" and the text "Installation ended prematurely because of an error" is shown. To press OK is my only option here as well so i did this, and.. it all ended.

I've seen that error before with PostgreSQL 8.4.x installations. Try downloading 8.3.9 from that link, unzip it, and then run that installer and see if it works better for you.
