Clustering taking too long

Ok; I don't know why it took that long to get moving but if it is still changing size, Cluster is still working.

Out of curiosity, what anti-virus/anti-spyware software are you using?

Hey Kraada is it possible for my computer to go to sleep and put the housekeeping process on hold some how? The reason I ask is the file 17996.3 didn't do anything from the last time I checked in on the progress last night untill just after the first time checked today. Its like the computer was sleeping and nothing was going on.

My anti-virus/anti-spyware is McAfee Security Center a free trail which came with the computer. I have this set up to allow PT3 full access. Due to what I read in the Guides and How to's under the firewall trouble shooting guide. Although I did not disable my McAfee System Guards when I installed PostgreSQL 8.4. I just didn't now I had the system guards until after the install was complete....Dave

I'm honestly not sure how PostgreSQL interacts when you put the system to sleep. The SystemGuards bit is only for installation and only for some users; you have PostgreSQL installed so you don't need to worry about that. The reason I asked was that systems actively scanning any files that are opened or read can cause cluster progress to slow down massively; in that case putting in an exception for the PostgreSQL directory speeds things up noticeably.

Kraada my McAfee firewall for internet and network under program promissions allows both the PostgreSQL server and PT3 full access of outbound and inbound internet connections. Is this the exception you refer to or is their another area for exceptions I should be looking for. I do have a windows firewall that has allowed PT3 through the firewall but I could not figure out how to add PostgreSQL to the list. So I disabled the firewall for right now....I had done these things prior to the Housekeeping process..Dave

No I meant if there was an active scan of files you open - I don't think McAfee does that though.

So I have been reading a bunch about the Task Manager more specifically hard faults/sec. My hard faults/sec are pretty high up to 200 per sec. Yet I only have used less then half my memory. So I checked my page fualt values and I can increase the value but I would have to resart my computer. My question is should I end housekeeping (clustering) and increase my page fault perameters. Or does any of this matter...Thanks again..Dave

Well I just want to say thank you again to everyone esspecially Kraada. I finally figured out that my computer was going to sleep every ten minutes. So I'm guessing that nothing was going on with houskeeping or anything for that matter. Which explains my lenghty housekeeping times. Reset my power parameters so that my computer never sleeps and when I woke up today Housekeeping had finished for the 1st time in a week. Now I'm auot-rating, almost time to play.

About the Hard Faults and or Page Faults. If someone could tell me I would like to know if increasing my page faults would help speed up housekeeping/clustering time...Dave

How much RAM do you have in your system?

Hey Kraada I have 4GB total and I've only used up 1.68GB. I thought I would have enough free space being that I have more than half my memory left to use. Again thanks for being on it Kraada I know I couldn't do this without you. Dave

That should be plenty; you don't really need to worry about the hard faults as PostgreSQL is doing a lot of writing to disk which is going to cause those naturally, as far as I understand it.
