Moving data from one laptop to another

Postby megadodge » Fri Mar 12, 2010 3:09 pm

Apologies if this has been asked before.

My old laptop is on it's deathbed, so I've got a new one.
From now on obviously I will only play on my new one.
I want to transfer all the hand histories from the old laptop to the new.
How do I do this?

Firstly though, how do I load PT3 onto the new one?
Is it just a case of logging onto this site and downloading from here?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can just download PT3 from us again without any problems. The easiest way to get things moved over is to make sure your laptop is running Beta 30.8, then click File -> Backup. Check all boxes, take the backup to your new computer and File -> Restore in Beta 30.8 on the new machine to restore all of the data.

Just so I'm clear, this will backup not just the hands, but all of the filters & notes associated with that database? And will it also save reports, preferences, & settings -- which I'm guessing are not necessarily part of any one database, but are associated with the PT3 software? Is that how it works? Mostly I want to make sure I'm backing up everything so that if/when I move it to a new computer things will be pretty much exactly the same. Thanks.

Yes, that's right - there are options in File > Backup to save all of your config. The database includes notes and filters.

For some strange reason PT3 is only showing one session of the number of sessions I've played on the new laptop.
Why is this and what do I do to get it to display all my played hands ?

Do you have a filter set? Try clicking Clear at the top right and see if your data appears then.

Nope, I'm afraid that isn't it.

I actually had tried that already, but just double checked.

Everything was working ok initially, but for the last few days....

Did the hands import for the other sessions?
Have you selected your screen name in the player list on the left? If you haven't configured "My Name Is" in the Settings Window then it won't select you automatically when you start PT3. (apologies if that sounds obvious, but it has been the problem sometimes.)
Other than that, have you created a new database? If you have auto import configured to import to a database which isn't Active you won't see the results unless you switch to the other database. Tutorial: Using Auto Import

If none of that explains it please enable logging, restart PT3 and play about 20 or 30 hands at a single table with auto import running and then Refresh the Sessions tab and attach a screenshot of it along with the PokerTracker.log file to a support ticket so that we can investigate further.

Yup, it was that simple (wrong name).

Sorry for wasting your time

Back to the original problem, when I go to backup and have a 700MB rewriteable disc in my disc drive, PT3 is telling me there is 0MB available in that drive.
As a result I cannot save anything.

What's the problem ?
