Cannot connect to database

Postby Caboose320 » Fri Apr 30, 2010 2:27 pm

I have recently updated to 3.06 and now cannot connect to any of my databases. It takes almost 2 full minutes from the time I click the icon for the program to open up. When it does a window pops up and says error connecting to default database. Please select one of the valid databases. It may take time to populate. I thought 15 minutes should be long enough. None of my 3 databases populated. I tried creating a new database and got this message "Unable to create PostgesQl database: PT3_2010_04_30_134829 Reason: Unable to login to database(Template1). Reason: Could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "???" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432. According to the cofigure database screen I am on localhost port-5432, user postgres and whatever the password is. I run AVG anti-virus and made sure all the rules were in place an even disabled the firewall and still no luck
While I am at it. A few weeks ago I tried to import about 20 Pokerstars multi-table SnG histories from a flash drive and about 30(mixed PS and FTP) more from an e-mail attachment. They all downloaded but most of the Pokerstars will not show up in the enter results tab. They show up in the PT3 processed file but not in the program. I cannot figured how to get them to show up so I can enter the results to get accurate total result for the year. and also to get accurate stats on my play and to review these tourneys. I even tried to import one tourney at a time and it comes up as a duplicate.
I really hope I can get this fixed. If I can't get these histories to show up this will be the second year of stats the are not accurate. In 2008 I had to create a new database because somehow a few hands from "1962'(yes, 1962. I was 4 years old) corrupted both my tournament and cash game results.

Thanks

Do you have PostgreSQL installed on your system? That error message is indicating that PostgreSQL isn't installed at all.

Have you made a backup of your database recently? You will always be able to revert to that.
However, as long as nothing catastrophic has happened to the postgres "Data" folder you will be able to keep your existing data even if you need to re-install postgres.

If you haven't rebooted your computer for a while, please do that first - that can sort things out in some cases.

What happens when you do Start > Programs > Postgres > Start Service?
If you look in Task Manager > Processes do you see any postgres.exe processes?

Have a look at Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer - do you see any errors related to PostgreSQL?

If you want to try reinstalling postgres please follow the appropriate "How To Uninstall/Reinstall PostgreSQL" guide in the Documentation. This explains how to keep your existing data.

And on another note.

I just went thru my programs and postgres is there but now all of my processed files from 2/25/10 till now are GONE. I know they were there because I was trying to get those tourneys reinstalled as I told you in my original post. This is really turning into a pain in the ---. I really don't think it matters now if you can fix this or not. How am I going to recover 2+ months of files?

PT3 doesn't delete any files, it only moves them when you stop the auto import - it certainly won't delete any from the Processed folder.
Have your run a chkdsk recently to check your hard disk?

On 4/30/10. I was playing in the morning, using PT3. everything was fine. I noticed for some time the update screen that comes up before the program starts. I ignored it for quite some time(several weeks actually). I decided to do the update that morning after I was done playing. That is when all these problems started. I could not open PT3 after the update. Now after your replies and suggestions on what to do I have even less then what I had before. I tried the uninstall/reinstall of postgres 6 times. I have rebooted my computer more times than I could count. I get error code 2755 during the postgres install and then it shuts down.

This error is due to a problem with the windows xp installer. It will not install if the installation file is encrypted files. If you right click the folder you have the PostgreSQL installer in, go to Properties --> Advanced then uncheck the "encrypt file" box, everything should work properly for you.
