A few questions

Postby AAA Donnie » Tue Jun 29, 2010 3:28 pm

:?: How long approx. should a cache update take after adding several stats?
(for a reasonably small db of about 400k hands/44,000 players)

I'll try to summarize where I'm at:
After all of my prob's...I have created a new db (w/out M, and added stats), manually imported all data, and performed housekeeping (ALL housekeeping) Entire housekeeping of newly imported hh's took about 10 hrs.
I then upgraded to newest version of postgres, fine tuned postgres, and hard drive, and added these stats:

1. M (according to workaround thread)
2. Zone specific stats-all colors (same thread)
3. "Hands w/ a k notation" (repository)

I attempted cache update before bed, but 10 hrs later it was only like 14% complete... I couldn't help myself, ended the task.
My cache still says 100% although I haven't attempted to use hud yet. (hopefully it's not corrupted)

:?: Am I better off adding one stat at a time each day, and updating cache each night?
:?: Does adding multiple stats extend cache update time?
:?: Am I understanding "zone specific M stats" correctly? :?: If I add this, will my hud or pop-up then be able to show vpip, pfr, etc. based off the players stack size?

Thanks again!

To answer question (1): It depends on how many hands you've added. When you do an Update it's just based on the hands you've manually imported since last time unless you've added custom stats. If you've done that than an Update is the same as a rebuild. A Rebuild goes through and calculates every column for every stat for every player and stores them in the cache table to improve responsiveness in the HUD.

Therefore it is much better to add all stats at once and run one Rebuild and just wait. That M workaround makes things take a hell of a lot longer - we still don't know why.

Adding multiple stats extends cache update time but once the cache is built and the stats are no longer new, it doesn't add a lot of time per stat (I added about 800 stats at one point, it caused the entire cache rebuild to take about 40% longer).

For your third question it depends on what stats you're using. If you're using the popup in my HUD, then it shows you their stats based on their play from solely hands where they had the stack size in question.

Wow. Sick fast response. TYVVM!

I only added the zone specific columns in the M workaround thread. I don't even know how they work yet tbh.
(I didn't finish cache update afterward, so I haven't used hud yet)

I had mistakenly thought your hud was just for cash. :?:
If I can use your hud, pop-up, for Tourneys, I would like to do that.
:?: I take it all my my hud stats are still fully customizable afterward?
:?: In case I have diff preferences?
I really like the way I have my hud stats set, I just want a way to have zone specific,or stack size based stats somewhere. Even if it's only on the pop-up.

:?: Should I just delete the stats I added and import your set-up? Would this simplify things?
As I'm sure u know, I'm pretty retarded with this stuff. (Thank god I can play poker  )

Thanks!!!

P.S. Oh yeah, can u gimme a link to ur set-up thread or do I go to repository?

I think I found it... Is "M4" the correct .zip to dl?

Yes M4 is the correct tournament one, though the statistic to display M in it will not work properly - it was based on an old workaround that no longer functions properly.

You can keep your own stats and import mine - you can have multiple tournament profiles. You can even import mine and if you just like the By M popup, export it from my layout and import it into your own. PT3 is very flexible like that - and I certainly don't mind, fiddle with it to your heart's content, that's why I put it out there.

Thanks Kraada. I'll import M4 and play around with the stats.

I have M from Mike's workaround, so that should work.

Wont be able to test anything until tomorrow after cache rebuild.

Is there some documentation anywhere that will show me how to write a script and a valid sql expression for BB stat?

I honestly searched diligently, but couldn't find what I needed.

Thanks

I'm honestly not sure - I actually bought a book on SQL and have been working through it . . .

No worries. I'll just wait I guess. This M workaround adds too much time to the cache rebuild... I'm ditchin that too.

Is anyone else going to work on an M stat that u know of?

Or should I put in a request/ticket to be notified when.../if so?

OMG. :o After deleting M stat, and adding ALL of your stats. Cache rebuild only took 40 min. :D

 There REALLY should be some kind of warning/disclaimer added as an edit to the "M workaround" post. :!: :!: :!:

I don't think anyone would attempt to add it if they knew it could possibly add literally 50-70hrs to "cache time." :(

I'll just go ahead and submit a ticket to be notified when it is created "more efficiently."

TY for all your help.

One last thing. Am I mistaken, or have a few of these stats already been added in an update since your M4 post?

The ones I added from M4 show in blue. But several of them seem identical to the stat listed right above/below them. :?:

I don't see any way to make changes in the pop-up yet, by I will read your entire post and try to figure that out.
