Upgrading to latest PostgreSQL

Postby Hummer » Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:41 pm

I use a program called Secunia PSI, which identifies outdated programs which may pose a security risk. It lists PostgreSQL 8.3.9.9343 as a category 3 security risk, which they define as "a hacker may be able to use this program to gain access to your PC, but it will typically require user interaction."

I recognize that this is a remote security risk. But out of curiosity, I'm wondering when (or if) the people at PT plan on upgrading the version of postgresql that PT uses?

What reasons would there be to not use the latest version? Does it require extensive reworking of the PT program?

You can feel free to upgrade to 8.3.11 which is the most recent stable version in the 8.3.x line. We are still working to optimize everything for newer versions of PostgreSQL as they have made changes we need to take into account.

Hi,
i read these post and i'd like to know if is PT3 still incompatible with Postgre 8.4?

Well, the last update of Kubuntu brings Postgre 8.4 and i've been trying to upgrade my PT3 database to 8.4 but i have some problems with PT3. The last problem was that PT3 doesn't show players informations, however, recognizes the database running in Postgre 8.4.

So ... what's your recomendation? rollback my installation to 8.3?

regards,

PostgreSQL 8.4 speed will be much improved in our next forthcoming beta but the current beta should function properly with PostgreSQL 8.4. Could you be a bit more specific: where are you seeing these problems on your 8.4 installation?
