poker tracker doesnt work anymore after removing virus

Hi,
I just had a professional remove a virus from my computer and when i got the computer back, my poker tracker stopped working.
i get the error: unable to connect to database
101_SQLSTATE=08001
FATAL : password authentication failed for user "postgres"

to tell you the truth, I just want to start all over, with no data, in my pokertracker. and just get it to work for now. please help me...

It sounds to me like you're going to have to reinstall PostgreSQL. If you have any problems doing that, let us know.

I tried to reinstall postgreSQL, but when I do that it says "the installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that it is a valid windows installer package."

Since I just want to start fresh with no data, could I just remove the poker tracker program, and then reinstall it?
I don't care about keeping my old data. Do you think this will work?

You do not need to reinstall anything. You entered an incorrect password.

Go Start->Programs->PostgreSQL->Configurations Files->Edit pg_hba.conf. At the bottom of this file there are two lines that end with 'md5'. Change both of these 'md5' to 'trust'. File->Save.

Then go Start->Programs->PostgreSQL->Reload Configurations.

You should then be able to connect to your PostgreSQL database and if you want to create a new one you should be able to do that as well.

I did as you said, changed the 'md5's' to 'trust' however im still getting the same error message when trying to reinstall a new postgresql: "the installation package could not be opened. when I just try to run poker tracker as is i get the error message: "unable to connect to the database. 101- SQLSTATE = 08001 FATAL: database "PTPGSQL1" does not exist"
Poker ace has the same error message as well.
I wonder if it's because I re-downloaded both pokertracker and pokerace last night, when I was desperate to play poker... sorry for the trouble, and thanks alot for the help..much appreciated!

Well now you have a different problem. Initially the problem was that your password was incorrect.

Now it appears that you uninstalled PostgreSQL? Or at the very least deleted your PostgreSQL database.

Is PostgreSQL still installed? If it is, completely uninstall following the directions in this thread.

This sounds like a corrupted download. Delete this file and re-download PostgreSQL then install.

Are you extracting the zip file to your hard drive then running the installation from there? You cannot execute the installation file directly from the zip...

Go Start->Run, 'cmd' -> OK. At the command prompt type (without the quotes) 'net user postgres /delete'

ok, I did as you said, ran command, and typed in 'net user postgres /delete', and then unzipped the file and and reinstalled the new postgres...
however when i try to run my poker tracker, i still get an error message: "unable to connect to the database. 101 - SQLSTATE = 08001, could not connect to server: Connection refused ..........is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?"

hhmmm...what to do now? thanks Derek!
