What does it say in that file?

Is this just a normal home computer - do you have administrator permissions on it?

Re: Failed to set permissions on the installed files.

Hi,

I have been running:

- PokerTracker v.2.17.04g
- PAHud-Install-v1.19.10.5, and
- PostgreSQL 8.2 (no later than v8.2.11 - kept bad records back then)

I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit a couple months ago with no effect on any of the above three. Things were working fine, until ...

I inadvertently deleted a duplicate install of PA HUD I had installed some time ago on a different drive than were it should have been. When I cranked things up this evening, I suddenly got immediate popup errors in PAHUD, "SQL exception while trying to query player: Error executing "SELECT main_site_id, alias_id, ...." The player stats kept showing up on tables I opened but PT v2 was shutting down with "connection" error messages. So ....

I tried reinstalling PT v2 and PAHUD with no success. I thought it best to go back to square one and uninstalled Post 8.2.x successfully, But when I go to resintall 8.2.x I get the, 'Failed to set permissions .... " error message shown in this thread with the exact same popup shown here.

Antivirus was turned off each time.

I checked my UAC settings and it is already at the lowest, do not notify level.

I right clicked on the 'postgresql-8.2.msi' install file but no 'Run as an Administrator' so ...

I right clicked again went into Properties and the Compatability tab and checked box for 'Run as previous Windows version. No change, still 'Failed to set permissions' popup error.

I right clicked again on the 'postgresql-8.2.msi' install file and this time chose 'Troubleshoot Compatability' and all it did was uncheck to 'Run as previous Windows version; and, duh, back to same 'failed to set ... " error.

Oh, except from the 'pgprm.log' for the each of many failed install attempts are the same each time as directly below:

"
processed dir: F:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2
processed dir: F:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\bin
processed dir: F:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\data

processed dir: F:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\share
processed dir: F:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\tmp
The data is invalid.
"

Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks.

Try disabling UAC during the installation process and see if that helps.

Hi,

Yes, UAC has long been disabled in my Windows 7 due to similar install issues in past with other programs. I checked again and, yes, UAC is 'disabled,' set to 'Do Not Notify' the lowest setting.

Restart the installer but check the "Create a detailed log" box at the lower left (it's on one of the very first screens). When it fails, please post the end of that log here.

There is a different level of logging that you can enable when you start the PostgreSQL installer - it will include a lot more data beyond that of the pgprm.log and that's what I'm looking to see.

Hope this ending section of the postgre log for the failed install I just attempted. I hope I grabbed enough of the last section of the log report for you to work with. If you need the entire log file, just let me know where to email it to.
Note: It has always been the way since the first usages of PT/PA Hud, under Win XP, maybe even Win 95, but, you will note that I have previously and I am still looking to install PT, along with all my related poker software on an non-C Drive. Installed and running from a 'Program Files' folder on the 'F drive' on my machine. Such a separation and installs of all the poker software has not been an issue in the past and up until this latest snafu of mine, under Windows 7 as well.

Let me know what else I can help with or test.

Thanks. John
