Mac database with Boot Camp

Just attempted to do this and have already stumbled across a problem: I don't know what I'm doing and all the guides I found are either for having a database on a network using IP address(I don't think this is what I'm doing, aren't I essentially storing it on another hard drive?) or they were made to tailor XP

This is what I think I need to do:

Install the same version of PT3/postgreSQL on both os

Somehow make both postgreSQL share the same database(or is postgreSQL the database and I need PT3 to connect to the same postgreSQL?)

Go to PT3 and somehow get it to "see" the new database in the database management screen and set it as the default

The easiest way to do this is during the installation process - you want to install the same version of PostgreSQL to the same physical hard drive location in both places - the database will be created identically regardless of operating system so it will work in both places. If you've already installed it in both operating systems, you can change the data directory used from one of the two installations - in which installation is it easier to see the other operating system's files for you?

Uninstalled postgreSQL on both computers and started from scratch but alas, it doesn't seem like it would work. Following pictures will illustrate the error:

I guess it means the two systems aren't compatible?

The reference for the folder won't be the same on both sides - on the Mac side it's going to be in a normal Mac folder somewhere. How do you have your hard drive partitioned?

Not sure what you mean by the reference.

Hard drive is partitioned via boot camp assistant

There is no C: drive on the Mac side. It actually looks like it's easier to access the Mac side from Windows than vice versa - see this tutorial for details.

oh of course I see what I did wrong. I'm still going to try and install in on the windows side still, would prefer it that way.

I changed the installation directory to: /Volumes/BOOTCAMP/Program Files/PostgreSQL yet the same error occurs

Then this time it's probably the second part of the error message that's the problem - that folder needs to be writable. You should be able to set the permissions in the info for the folder though, and once it's writeable by everyone you should be able to connect. See here for more details on how to change OS X permissions.

According to the GUI, the folder is all readable and writable. However, that guide was written for an earlier version of OS X and hence, I'm not sure how reliable it is. I attempted to use terminal to verify if the folder is writable but failed; I have practically zero experience with terminal.

That tutorial applies to all recent versions of Mac OS, so should be fine. If you right click the folder in Finder and choose Get Info you can see (and change) permissions at the bottom of the window that opens, but you may still need to follow the Repair Permissions tutorial regardless - it may be showing incorrectly.
