Unable to logon to server

Postby Kashuskay » Wed Mar 23, 2011 12:40 pm

When I open pokertracker I get this message.

Error connecting to the default database.

Please select one of the valid databases or create a new one. Note: It may take time for the Database to fully populate.

However, the 'set default' button is not highlighted so I have to click on new and then I get this error when I try to make a new data base.

Unable to create PostgreSQL database:
PT3_2011_03_23_112928

Reason: Unable to login to database (template1). Reason: server close the connection unexpectedly. This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.

This just happened yesterday. No idea what I should do.

Please advise.

Thank you

Did you update or otherwise change your firewall or anti-virus yesterday? If a firewall or anti-virus were misconfigured it could cause that error. We have a document on how to configure common firewall and anti-virus software here.

Went to my anti-virus program to give full access and when copying the files from the link you gave me these two had issues.

C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.x\bin\pg_ctl.exe

Said this one did not exist.

And

C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.x\bin\postgres.exe

This one said 'above file name is invalid'.

Prior to the problems I'm having here I upgraded my Anti-virus (Zone alarm) and did a registry scan using their software and 'fixed' a bunch of registry file errors they said I had. I suspect that they 'fixed' it real good as in removed items that postgre needed?

How do I fix this please?

Thanks

That's possible. What version of PostgreSQL do you have installed?

Ok I just wanted to make sure as you said 8.x in your quote - you did try using the 8.3 folders when configuring the firewall?
