I did nothing of the sort. All I did was manually importing my old HH. Everything worked fine while I looked at my old graphs etc. When I started it today this happened. I have the latest version 8.4 I think. Where do I see if PostgreSQL is running?

Click Start (in XP click Run) type Services and click on the services option that appears (in XP type services.msc and hit enter). Locate PostgreSQL from the list and attempt to start it. Does it start?

I am on a Mac. I found a Start Server application in the PostgreSQL folder. I got this.

Open terminal (in Applications -> Utilities) and run this command:

sudo chmod -R 700 /Library/PostgreSQL/8.4/data/

It'll prompt for a password, use your Mac user password then hit enter - you won't see *s as a security precaution.

Once it finishes running, try starting the service and it should work properly then.

For security purposes, PostgreSQL won't start if too many people can write to the data directory. I just set the permissions back to what they need to be in order to start properly.
