PT 3 White Screen/ Freeze (housekeeping imppossible)

Postby mista_nice_guy » Mon Jul 18, 2011 9:15 am

I got a big problem with PT3 on Vista. Since 2 weeks all my tourney stats seem to be set to 0. Players from which I definitely had a couple hundred hands were set to 0 hands on the HUD. I suppose it has to with the Tourney Cache which is at 83%. AFAIK i have to update Cache to fix this, but its not possible anymore. It's been running for a around 20 hours and when i click on sth (either pokertracker or even windows explorer), PT3 turns white and freezes. To make things worse I can't even use Task Manager to shut PT3 down. And I can't shut down Windows via the Start-Button, which means I had to use the power-button of my notebook every time that happened. Same thing for backup. I cant backup my databases, because the progress stops at 10.68MB and stays there. Then again when I click on sth: White screen&Freeze...Now i reinstalled PostgreSQL but it still doesnt work.

If you try just doing the Cache Rebuild (and no other housekeeping functions), does that complete? If so that would solve this issue for you.

I tried the Cache Rebuild once, along with the other housekeeping options. It was the first thing I tried resulting in a freeze as well. I will try it again this evening without the other options and tell you the result. However I'm concerned that my database is in bad shape, since I had to switch of my notebook via the power button a dozen times by now. (On startup checkdsk is automatically running saying sth. wrong with the "pgstat.stat"-file, just FYI) Is there anyway to check if the database is okay? I'm playing on Party Poker in case this is important.

That's why I said to do it without the other options.

Take a look in the Event Viewer and see if there are any errors relating to PostgreSQL there - that would give us some clues as to what's going on if there's database or hard drive errors (you can find Event Viewer in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools).

The last error concerning SQL seems to be from February, total number of errors 3, all of those occured simultaneously simultaneously. But PT3 and Vista crashed each of the last 5 or 6 days. Didn't run the rebuild cache yet, gonna report soon as try.

OK, let us know how the cache rebuild goes, but I would suggest that you try to make a full export as it's possible you'll need to re-import to a new database.

Okay, cache rebuild worked indeed, took around 15 minutes. I did Cache Update as well which only took 5 minutes. Didn't play since then though, so I'm not sure yet if the hands missing are back in the HUD now. So now I have to do a full export? Do I have to run some of the other house keeping options as well? Thx for your help.

The other housekeeping options shouldn't make a difference here (except possibly for Reindex so that might be worth trying). See if your data looks right - if so you may not need to make a new database (then again, given the speed of the rebuild, making a new database might not take that long, either).

One reason I was thinking about a new database was that I'm concerned whether the stats are still right.

Can I be sure the stats are correct, or is it possible that some stats are shown wrongly because I had to switch off my PC while running PT3.

I mean if there's a problem with the DB would some hands simply be left out completely or could the value of some stats also be affected. (i.e. wrong 3Betting % or PFR)

The cache rebuild rebuilds all of the stats from the data in the database, so they should be correct. But if you want to be 100% sure the only way to do so is to reimport into a new database at this point.
