Results Entry & DB quetions

Postby dj11 » Mon Apr 28, 2008 11:41 am

Is there a preferred order to Analyze, Cluster, and Vacuum the database? From my relatively naive understanding it seems it would be cluster, vacuum, and then analyze.

In another thread there is a bit of confusion, so perhaps you could clear this up.
Regarding tourney results. So far using the 'enter results' tab, I have personally parsed through a very long email from stars and manually found and then entered each result that was significant. I believe I made several mistakes, as while my actual bankroll grew, my graphs don't show this. This was akin to plucking my eyebrows with vice grips.

In that other thread there is the hint that I can enter a large text file and PT3 will parse through the text picking out the pertinent info putting it in each tourney where appropriate. If this is case, and there are specific documents detailing this procedure, perhaps a link here would help. I looked through the existing docs and found nothing.

I will try to do what I think you are hinting at in that other thread, but that will be after I Cluster, vac and analyze , and then back up my dbase.

I'm pretty sure when you cluster a PostgreSQL database, it does a vacuum full. Follow up with an analyze.

To import your tournament summaries, copy the contents of the email to a text file, then in PT3's manual import tab, select that file to import.

I'm not sure what other thread you are talking about. Can you link to it?

Here is what I did after cluster/vac/analyze.

Converted a PS email of Tourney summaries (100 tournies) to text.
Import-Manual Import-Import from file . I chose the filename.
(this first attempt was with the cluster and analyze boxes checked.)

This took a very long time. I took a shower, and 30 minutes later when it said it was complete, it was not complete. I got a warning box telling me I could do nothing while manual import was in progress. This lasted at least 10 minutes. While I was preparing a screen shot for the support report I was planning to submit, the process finally finished.

Unsure of what may or may not have happened, I imported a single result, from the text converted file I created from a email report cash last night.

It went through this process pretty quickly, partly I'm sure becasue I unchecked the cluster and analyze boxes.

However! The results do not show up in my tourney summaries.

Conclusion is this needs some work. Or a clarification that it is we mere humans who have to do the parsing through the text and physically manually enter the specific details for each tourney.

Did you click the 'Refresh' button, located in the upper-right hand corner, in the Tournaments window? You need to manually refresh the stats after importing. We plan on eventually adding an auto-refresh but this has not yet been implemented.

Best regards,

This morning I downloaded beta 10.

When I created the required new database from my already processed files, no tourney winning info appeared, except for one tourney which I did last night, and had never manually entered.

I did the above process, which took almost an hour for a 2 meg tourney summary from Stars, yet nothing shows up.

I hit the refresh buttn, no joy. I clustered vacuumed, and analyzed, no joy.

I Closed down PT3, and restarted, no joy.

While thrilled with PT3, having to do this manually for the 3rd time covering and parsing through a gazillion hands makes me feel just a wee bit south of tickled.

You have the active/default database set to the new database?

I know it's inconvenient to have to reimport everything and re-enter your tournament results. I'm hoping to have tournament summaries exporting in the next release. You said it imported a 2 mb tournament summary from PokerStars but nothing showed up? If you go into the Enter Results window, is the tournament listed in there?

The 2 meg tourney results were from an email I got fro Stars, covering several weeks and many tournies. I copied them to a text file, then imported that text file. It took almost an hour to complete (53 minutes if I remember correctly).

Of note should be that as of yesterday there was a new file in my processed folder. It was a tourney summariy from FT. That particular summary represents the ONLY winnings showing up in my database. I had not entered that info into PT3, in fact PT3 was not even running at the time. It may be that FT has started sending summaries out with their HH's, perhaps upon a particular players tourney demise. . Very nice in this case because it included some Knock Out Bounty info. I did not look to see if it was there before starting up PT3b10.

For me at this point though, the ONLY winnings showing after upgrading to beta 10 is that one single tourney.
