Yes, the data folder needs to be owned by the postgres service user - this is considered a security feature.

I used to have issues to get postgres up and running but it got solved when I shifted from f-secure to AVG free by Riders semi recom. Now the problem has re-established itself and only thing which i can think off is that i updated my avg free lately. I can not connect to the database and get the following messages. I even temporarely disabled avg free without any change.

Could this be a security issue again?
What to do the get things solved?

Click Start, type services and click on it when it appears. Attempt to start the PostgreSQL service in the list - will it start?

Sorry that i have not have time to come back on this. Yesterday i started to work on it but... here how it went.

First of all, I have hp laptop dual prosessor and 4 gigabytes of memory. Originally Vista but switched to Win 7 (32 bits, missclicked  )

I had problems from the start pt3 quest as i am not a IT orientated person. One of the problem was due to laptop motherboard which tend to overheat and after long investigation was replaced. Other one was the f-secure which i swithced to avg free. Third was and maybe still is the my sql 8.3 installation, i am not sure it went right. Some point it tryed to change it to 8.4 but most probably that was never in use. All these things together created at least 40% processor usage every time when pt3(import+hud) was up. First thing which was solved was avg free, it did not lower the CPU usage but i got sgl up an running on permanent basis. When the motherboard was swicthed fan level went down overall but PT3 still heated it up. I was very recluntant to do any modifications as it did work on daily basis.

When i made my previous post i tryed earlier to start postgres from services, it fired up and shutted down. I made my post and tryied one more option i.e. started it from pgadmin and i got 8.3 up and connected. Tracker found my 2/3 databases(test ones) but my main was did not start or was not located. This time I realised i must have accidentally cleaned it out as I did to my office local language files as well. I did not panic as i had two monts old backup to restore and i tested i could create the new db.

Yesterday i tryed to restore it. Prosess was smooth as far as I can say but after the complition and pt3 restart it did not recognize the db format or something to that nature. It ended crashing PT and I got a recommendation to submit a ticket and log file from yesterday. Is the right thing to do at this point?

I have to say that with my current setup PT3 is taking too much power out of it but I do think it should work smoothy if all the specs are right. I would really would like to have pro help to get this settle all together before thinking about next evolution of tracking program.

Best Regards,

Tomi

Yes please do submit logs and a ticket that will help us considerably in figuring out exactly what is going wrong for you and getting everything working for you properly.
