Again "unable to connect to this database."

Postby Radek » Sun Jan 08, 2012 11:40 am

Hello,

i have download the trial version of "PockerTracker".
But i cant start it, have problems with PostgreSQL.

After the installation i run "PockerTracker", it start and wont connect to SQL.
I let the default settings in the connection box.

But trying to connect i get the info: unable to connect to this database. please check the configuration.

I read the guides in the forum also other topics.
I check if PostgreSQL is running and find it at the services:

postgresql-8.4 - PostgreSQL Server 8.4 is running logged as: .\postgres

Maybe the login is failed?

Infos: I have win7 and i installed also HoldemManager in the trial version, maybe have troubles with holdemmanager??

Thx

Try using the password:
postgrespass

That is the default password used when PostgreSQL is installed by HM.

Click Start and type 'services'.
Do you see PostgreSQL in the list? Is it started? Can you start it?

Hi,

yes, the service is in the list.

But im solved the problem: the password was wrong, because i want to test holdem manager too, the password was changed into postgrespass (or the login name).
It works now, thanks you :)

Unable to connect to this database

Have the same problem but not solved with using postgrespass as password.

In short previously used PT2 and downloaded trial version PT3. Using Windows XP.

Error message is "unable to connect to this database- check configuration"

Disabled password substituting "trust" for md5 in the programs configuration files and reloaded configuration and rebooted. Nothing different trying to connect with no password.
Have cleared firewall access as outlined in documentation.

The version downloaded with PT3 is showing 8.2. I tried downloading version 9 but could not install as I confronted the same password problem.

Out of options. Seems to be a problem of configuration related to previous use of PT2?

Please help.

More on unable to connect problem.

I can access the program including pgAdmin111, including the server/database menu and shows postgres as the databse - but has an alert that pgAdmin111 has found multiple issues, namely that "the server lacks instrumentation functions" and a "database encoding" issue. That's why I downloaded Version 9 only to be confronted with the same sort (seemingly) of password problem.

PT3 installs 8.3, not 8.2, but if you currently have 8.2 installed (which isn't supported for PT3) then I'd recommend installing 9.0 (NOT 9.1 as that is new and still has problems) manually.
If you do not know the 'postgres' user password (try 'svcPASS83' too) then you may need to uninstall and reinstall PostgreSQL. If you still use your 8.2 databases then you'll need to reinstall 8.2 as well as any new version, but you can keep your existing databases when you uninstall and reinstall. The guides in the Documentation are for newer versions but the process is basically the same.
