Upgrade completely successful - one minor oddity: the database created from the initial install of PT3 is deleted but still showing up (and obviously giving me a Cannot Connect to Database error). Any way to get rid of that?

Use the Remove option in the Database Management window - that database is saved in the PT3 config but does not exist and the Remove button deletes it from the PT3 list.

Old bump, but I wiped that Windows install and upgraded to the 64-bit Windows 7 install. 2 Questions:

1) How do I deactivate my previous install so I can use the reg code on the new install?

2) When going to download the upgraded postgreSQL, I noticed 9.x+ has 64-bit versions for Windows - what are pros/cons to upgrading postgreSQL to one of these versions with PT3? Would I see an improvement in speed?

1) As long as the old installation is never run again ( as it clearly won't be in this case) it shouldn't cause any problems.

2) 9.1 is still pretty new and has problems so we do not recommend/support it yet.
9.0 has a 64-bit version and if you're installing fresh then we recommend that version. You'll get a slight performance improvement, although we don't have any figures - probably not enough to justify upgrading if you have a large database, but if you're just starting up then it's advisable.

2) I would be importing my DB from my previous install, which was 8.4 and has 100k+ hands already in it. If I imported this DB into PT3 with postgreSQL 9.0, would this cause problems?

You can't directly use an 8.4 data folder in 9.0 - you'd need to either backup and restore the database or reimport the hands. But so long as you use one of those methods you should be fine.

That's what I would be doing - I have a backed up copy of my DB in my Dropbox, which I use to shuttle them back and forth between computers (amongst other personal work), which was from 8.4. If I install 9.0 and restore from that DB (backed up through PT3), that should work fine?

We haven't put one together at this point but the steps are similar - there's an uninstall-postgresql executable that will uninstall the current version once you've backed everything up.
