How to get my PT3-Database to PT4?

Postby BustYourBR » Sun Feb 05, 2012 12:02 pm

I wanna use my old database in PT4 too. But how to get my old database to PT4? Unfortunately, converting my old database takes way to much time and there is no option to split this in portions. I could export all hands of my old database and import them in PT4 but how to save my notes?

Could the following plan work or is there a more effective way?

1. Backup my old database.
2. Export all hands.
3. Purge all hands.
4. Convert the database to PT4, which now should only contains my notes.
5. Import all hands with PT4.

That should work - how large is the database we're talking about here?

We are talking about 1.2 Mio tournament hands. Would maybe take over 10hours to convert that (I've stopped converting by 400k hands after 3 hours).

Edit: Maybe it was less then 3 hours till 400k hands, my computers goes to stand-by after some time.

If you cancel and start it again it goes through the duplicates extremely quickly, so it will blast through what you've done pretty quickly and get back to where it was a lot faster the second time around. Given this, it's probably going to end up being the easiest to start it again and let it complete - even if it takes you 3-4 tries to get through everything it will still end up being a lot less work than the other method you are proposing.

I've now converted my database in one run and it took me 11.5 hours to do that, 8 hours for importing and then aditional 3.5 hours for some concluding tasks which I couldn't cancel. 12 Mio tournaments hands in 11.5h sounds pretty poor to me considering that my system contains an AMD Phenom IIx6 1090T, a Corsair P3 SSD and 8gb of Ram.

One addional problem appeared: The results of my Party SNGs aren't tracked correctly, according to PT4 I've won around $90k by an ITM-Distribution of 2-1-1. I know I am good (or at least I hope so), but certainly not that good (I maybe won at most $10k). Results on iPoker, 888, Stars and FTP however seem to be correct.

Edit: Results of Stars are not correct too, but this rather by MTTs then by SNGs.

Edit 2: Only part of my notes have been converted from PT3 to PT4.

ok, results on stars are maybe correct, most likely there is some confusion between the distinction of sngs and mtt (on my side, on the side of online databases like SharkScope or on the side of PT4)

We don't get much detailed information about tournament types from hand histories. We detect the type where possible, but it isn't possible to get the results exactly right.
Are the results of your tournaments correct in PT3?
If you can find a tournament which has correct results in PT3 but is wrong in PT4 please export that tournament from PT3 and attach the hand history and summary files to a Support Ticket and tell us what the correct result was so that we can check out why the results aren't correct in PT4.

Is it any particular type of notes which haven't transferred across? (e.g. tournament notes rather than player or hand notes?)
Do you have more than one database in PT3? Could notes have been in different DBs?

Results of Party SNGs have been correct in PT3. In fact, I am surprised that my overall winnings on Stars are maybe even correct, because PT3 didn't track the results of older Stars SNGs. It's maybe hard to find Party SNGs with incorrect results, there are over 11k SNGs in my database and on first glance I can't see anything suspicious. However I've found some Party SNGs with no hands, but this is maybe a different story.

Notes have been in two different DBs, one of them is an old corrupted database which only contains notes, but most notes are missing and I couldn't detect any kind of pattern of missing/converted notes. However, I think there's was an error message, that PT4 cannot convert my notes.

I have now converted my two old DBs in separation and now the conversion of notes succeeded.

However this is not the end of odd things. I've found several tournaments with no or a lot of missing hands. So what to do? Import my old processed HHs? Export HHs from PT3 and import them?

Reimporting from the originals or exporting from PT3 and importing into PT4 should all work - but if you can get us the original hands from one of these tournaments in a support ticket so that we can figure out what kept the conversion working properly we would greatly appreciate it.
