Poker Tracker 3 Setup Help Needed!

Postby ccr771 » Tue Jan 31, 2012 7:03 pm

Please help!

I had been using a previous version of Poker Tracker 3 with Fulltilt Poker, after Black Friday I didn't play much poker, but then later started playing at Pokerstars. I updated my Poker Tracker 3 software, and when I went to start it, I got this message:

Unable to create PostgreSQL database: PT3_2012_01_31_162915 Reason: Unable to login to database (template1). Reason: FATAL: Password authentication failed for user "postgres"

I am running a Mac with OS X Lion 10.7.2 and Poker Tracker 3 3.11.8 BETA. I will also post a screenshot.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Was everything working before you updated PT3? This suggests that PT3 can't connect to PostgreSQL, but updating PT3 shouldn't affect that. Have you used PT3 since you updated your OS to Lion?
Do you have PostgreSQL in Applications? Can you start the service?
Is it the same after a reboot?

Hey WhiteRider:

First off, thank you for the quick reply, and I'm sorry it's taken this long to get back to you. Everything was working fine the last time I used PT3, which was both before I did the update to PT3 and before I updated my OS to Lion. Nothing is changing if I reboot my computer. I just checked in my Applications folder, and PostgreSQL is not in there anywhere. In fact when I use the "Search" feature in "Finder" and search "This Mac", it doesn't locate PostgreSQL anywhere. But when I go into System Preferences > Users & Groups, it lists PostgreSQL under "Other Users" (I've posted a screenshot of this).

I assume that I need to reinstall PostgreSQL, but I have no idea how to do this, would you please guide me through it?

Thank you,
Cody

The user there is needed - you should leave him where he is.

Download and install PostgreSQL 8.4 from here. Once it's installed you should be all set to connect again - your data should be intact, it just sounds like the PostgreSQL install did not survive the upgrade (even though it was our understanding that for most people, it did).

kraada,

Thank you for your post. I followed the link you posted and ran into a few more problems, I think. When I open the PostgreSQL 8.4 .dmg file, it begins the "Setup Wizard" and gives me the following series of screens:

So I click "Next" here.

And then "Next" again.

Image
Now here I need to enter a location. If I enter the location as "/Library" (as it shows in the screen shot), I get the following pop up (in the next screenshot). If I try using any other location, I immediately get the pop up in the very last screenshot.

Image
(I only get this pop up if I use the location "/Library")
Then I click "Ok" and then just get the pop up in the very last screenshot.

Image
(I end up at this point no mater what I do)
So I click "Ok" again and I'm back to where I started.

After all of this, I tried rebooting my computer. And it didn't change anything in terms of the "Setup Wizard", but now when I go into System Preferences > Users & Groups, PostgreSQL is no longer listed under "Other Users" as it used to be.

Please help!

You will probably need to select the folder "/Library/PostgreSQL/8.4/" or possibly "/Library/PostgreSQL/8.4/data" in order to use your existing database structure. I'm surprised the PostgreSQL installer doesn't set that as a default - is the "Data Directory" field blank when you first see it?

WhiteRider,

Yes, when I get to that point in the "Setup Wizard" the "Data Directory" field shows up blank. And I would have tried to select either "/Library/PostgreSQL/8.4/" or "/Library/PostgreSQL/8.4/data", but when I open up Macintosh HD > Library there is no PostgreSQL folder within. I don't understand why the "Setup Wizard" saying "An existing PostgreSQL installation has been found at /Library/PostgreSQL/8.4. This instillation will be upgraded." when there is no such folder in existence. Even when I use the "Search" feature in "Finder" and search "This Mac", it doesn't locate PostgreSQL anywhere, aside from the PostgreSQL 8.4 .dmg file on my desktop.

Everyone's help is much appreciated thus far,
Cody

That sounds very odd - please create a support ticket and request remote assistance with a link to this thread and we'll make sure to take care of you.
