Computer can't connect to server

Postby VladimirN » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:35 pm

Since yesterday I had a weird problem.
It seems like my computer lost some connections to programs installed in disk D (non system disk).

For example it can't seem to recognize postgres in disk D, if I run pgadmin III it says:

And it doesn't recognize it as being installed: when I tried to uninstall it over Control Panel it said it's already uninstalled.
I couldn't re-install posgred 9.0 in disk D because I'm getting some error saying it can't connect to the server.

But when I installed 9.1 in disk C, it worked fine.

Same was happening with Sharkscope HUD. It couldn't find the sites path until I installed it in disk C.

I understand that this is not postgres thing but do you maybe know what's going on and how to fix it? Because I just lost my database which is still in my postgres 8.4 installation and I can't seem to get it back.
Thanks.

Are you able to connect to the D: drive in Windows Explorer? Can you see the folders and files on that drive?

Yes, I can connect to drive D and see the files and folders.

You know when you re-install Windows and have to format disk C. Then some programs in disk D wont work because they had some important executable files in disk C (like .dll and stuff) and you have to install them again.
It feels like that, only that re-installing in disk D doesn't work.

So I managed to make him recognize postgres but when I start the "Begin Auto Import" button on PT3 I get this:

I suppose installing it in disk C would work but is there any other way to fix this? So I can keep my database.

PS: It just happened suddenly. I played my session normally, didn't touch anything, turned PT3 auto import off so I can see the updated graph and then when I tried to turn it on I got that error.

You can install PT3 to a hard drive that PostgreSQL isn't installed on - that doesn't really make a difference to PostgreSQL. The PT3 install directory and the database really are two different things. Taking a backup and trying an install on your C drive might be the easiest solution for you.
