Database compatibility and HDD setup

Postby micstr » Fri Mar 09, 2012 1:29 pm

Hi.

I was using postresql 9.1 for PT3, but now, as I'm planning on changing my PC, I want to install 9.0, as it is recommended for PT3.

The question is: if I backup my 9.1 database, can I restore it in 9.0 without any problems?

Also, I know that database works best when it is on a separate disk. As I'm buying new PC, and I cant afford a big SSD, my setup is like this:

-a small SSD for system and PT and other software
-a fast 7200 drive divided into 3 partitions:
-database for PT
-my media like music, movies, etc.
-backup partition

When I play poker i rarely use any media, even music, so I think the database will be kind of exclusive on HDD usage, am I right?

Are there any suggestions on how to tweak the database partition?

Is it enough to install postgresql on this partition, or should I do any other settings?

Sorry, but I couldn't find this in any FAQs

Yes you can restore a 9.1 backup in 9.0 without any problems.

Your setup sounds like it will work fine, just make sure you install PostgreSQL to that dedicated hard drive and that will put all relevant data there. You may also want to take a look at this tutorial.

Hi again,
I tried restoring my database on the new machine, but id didn't work. After it has finished, saying that everything went well, the new database is there, it weights a lot (about 30GB), but it shows no players, no statts, absolutely nothing.

Should i try do it again? Maybe this time only export the hands, not the configuration and other stuff?

Did you connect to that database in PT3 and set it to Active?

Sure. I checked it few times, reset the PC, tried everything. It looks like I 'm gonna have to try it all over again.
