Something wrong with PT3

Postby Picko001 » Tue Jan 03, 2012 4:08 pm

So i just wanted to start my session today and i open Poker tracker 3 and instead of it opening as usual i get the Configure Postgresql database window, which is strange because i have a database set up so i click on browse databases and a window pops up and says:

Unable to login to database (template1). Reason: Could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "???" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

So i go on create database and get unable to create database, same message as above...

After that i do the usual, go to control panel to see if firewall is on (it s off), try reinstaling postgre and pt3, google the problem a bit (went to start, run, enterd services.msc tried to start the postgresql service, got an error that said: Error 1053: The service did not respond to start or control requests in a timely fashion.) and nothing seems to work...

The program worked fine without any problems before, i haven t made any changes to my software or anything, and the problem really happened out of nothing...

I am running Windows xp professional, version 2002, service pack 3...

Anny help is apreciated.

Click Start --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Event Viewer and open that up. Choose Application on the left and look for errors on the right relating to PostgreSQL - double click the first one you find and paste the details of the error description here for me.

The behavior you are describing implies that PostgreSQL is unable to start up properly - this error text should give us more information as to why it won't start up properly.

There s a lot of postgre errors most of them say: could not create inherited socket: error code 10022

I also found two that say: Timed out waiting for server startup.

Try downloading and running the free software found here - that will likely fix things for you.

So my laptop was in pretty poor condition, and my anti-virus licence expired like 3 weeks ago, so i decided to erase a couple of programs and stuff i haven t been using, and downloaded avast free, ran the full system scan, decided to try winsockxpfix 1 more time and bam it worked....

Everything is back to normal now, i wan to thank you kraada, man you re a life-saver and hopefully we ll never have to hear from each other again :D

Hello,
I have an almost identical problem. Since last using PT3, I have only defragged. Now I get the identical message Picko001 was getting. When I check the event viewer, my message says "FATAL: could not create any TCP/IP sockets". Before I bull ahead with the suggestions above, I'd like to know that is the right thing in this case.

Thanks
Kim

Did some tweaking of my firewall settings and that cleared it up. The question now is why did it work with the old settings yesterday but not today? I know you can't answer that but it is likely the most important question. Thanks for your patience.
