Transferring Note Def

Postby PHJJR » Fri Aug 31, 2012 8:05 pm

I have 2 computers and would like to have the same definitions on both.
I made several new ones today and thought I could copy the file and paste into other computer.
The file Notartrackerrules.pt4 however shows a modified date of 7/23 and size 157 kb. This is the same as on other computer and I was expecting the modified date to be today and the size to be different.
Am I transferring the wrong file?
The only other way is to export each individual definition which is a PITA
Also same problem with a HUD file. cash--- .pt4hud (this not as b a PITA) :D

If you want to overwrite the rules on the other computer then the easiest way is to use File > Backup. Untick all other options other than the NoteTracker definitions file and then restore the backup file on your other computer using File > Restore.
You can use this mechanism to transfer any of your settings files, as well as databases.

(We also recommend making regular backups of your databases as you would for any other important data.)

Thanks WR. I'm not where I can do that now and have copied the file NoteTrackerRules.pt4.
If I paste it into the other program file will it work? Just don't want to screw it up.

Click File on the menu bar of PT4 - at the very top left. Backup is listed underneath. Using the backup and restore system is definitely the quickest and easiest way to do what you want.

Sidequestion to this.

Does restore overwrite (delete the old notes) or does it add the notes ?

I have a friend who would like my notes so was considering backup and mailing him the backup file to restore on his. But does that delete any note definitions he might have made himself ?

If so, is the only other way to copy the definitions 1 by 1 ?

Best regards

If you want to just send the rules the easiest way to do that is to go into Tools -> NoteTracker, click on the new rules you have and click Export. That will export that rule. Repeat for the rules you have, then ship the exported files to your friend. He can do the same with his rules to you and then you import them via the Import button on that page. That way nobody loses any setup details - otherwise backup and restore will overwrite things.

has the backup/restore interface changed since 2008, i cant see note tracker definitions file as a checkbox?

i want to save my existing notes to restore and use for sessions in between (failed/revised) attempts at creating new definitions, how would i go about this?

also for speed in testing out a new batch of definitions is there a way to specify that note tracker only scans hhs from the past xx days rather than all hands in my db

and preferably a more universal method than by adding a date filter to each individual note (ie not adding "specific date since date xx/xx/xxxx" to each new note definition and then deleting that part of each definition once im satisfied with my new notes and want them collected from my entire db)

Yes it has, we condensed it to make it easier to read. If you backup the configuration files, it will include notetracker definitions.
