size of database

Postby omegaman » Fri Sep 14, 2012 11:07 pm

I have transferred my hands from pokertracker 3 to pokertracker 4 over 3 days 852k hands.
I have deleted pokertracker 3,which is ok,but i have noticed that the postgres sql file has 21.9GB in it,considering i have a total of 80GB this is becoming too huge for my pc.
I have just bought a 2TB external hard drive, but as yet i have not mastered how to get things from my pc or C drive onto the damn external drive.
It only seems to back up current data.I know there is probably a way to do this but i am not great in the techy world.
I bought this external drive as i could see problems with space and stuff and i also want to be able to play a computer game on it, but first i need to sort the space out.
Any help would be great as i know ur experts.

Can you see your external drive in Windows Explorer? You should have directions with your new drive about how to do that, and once you can you will be able to just drag and drop files as you would within your main hard drive. (Don't move any PostgreSQL files or folder - that is a more complex process which we'll be able to help you with once you're able to access your external drive.)

Yes i can see my external hard drive in my computer its on the f drive.
I have used send to take things like the pokertracker shortcut to the external hard drive.
I have the pokertracker 4 shortcut in my f drive now.
Directions were just simply non-existent with the external hard drive, its a seagate external hard drive and i had ticked continuous back up which i am now going to stop for now.
There is a sort of forum where there is a guy like urself who can help and he has suggested something i can try,but your directions will probably be easier to follow.
I have free disk space on my C drive of 37.2GB and on my external hard drive there is 1.81TB with none used.

what I did was,
Reinstall PT3 then create a new database, make it active then delete the main PT3 database, uninstall PT3. Freed up about 18gig on my harddrive

If you want to move your PostgreSQL databases to the external drive the easiest thing to do will probably be to make backups of your databases - using File > Backup in PT3 and/or PT4 as appropriate, and then uninstall PostgreSQL and reinstall it to your external drive.

Please make sure that you have backups of all of your databases and/or copies of the hand history files before you uninstall.

Follow the directions here to uninstall PostgreSQL and choose the new drive as the install location when you reinstall it.

Once you've installed PostgreSQL to the new drive just use File > Restore to restore your backed up databases.

I have backed up poker tracker 4 and uninstalled postgres sql.
I am stuck on the re-install process.
I have got up to extracting the files and going through the wizard, but i cannot seem to go any further or i am not sure what to do as the box does not show like in windows 7 example.

You shouldn't need to extract any files - just download the one-click PostgreSQL installer and run it.
You can get the installer here - since you're doing a clean install it would probably be best to get PostgreSQL 9.0 (9.1 and 9.2 are still pretty new and we do not support them yet).

If you're still having problems please post a screenshot of where you're stuck.

Windows XP is 32-bit so choose the x86-32 version.
