Exclude old hands because of stats distortion

Postby walter1953 » Tue Sep 25, 2012 9:11 am

Hi,

I have lets say 25k hands from a regular because I use to play at the same tables for about 3 years. lets say he plays 19/16. half a year ago he changes his gameplan and play from the 19/16 to 27/22. It would take a year before I recognise that he is playing a lot more aggressive because of all the old hands distortioning the stats.

is there a way to cut away old hands of him, then updating the cache and have pretty actual stats of him?

thanks in advance for your help :)

You could Purge the hands as explained here but that would also remove the stats on yourself. You can use the Last X Hands option in Configure --> Configure Hud --> Hud Options but that doesn't use the cache when doing so.

What might be best for you depending on how many hands you play is to keep one database of your lifetime stats and one of your recent stats and only use the recent database in your HUD - then it could be cached and you'd use all of it but at the same time you can see your lifetime stats for self-analysis elsewhere.

"use the last x hands" doesnt work for me --> freezes

so you mean, I should copy my database so I have database_1 and database_2 which are the the same at that moment. then I take database_2 and purge old sessions and take database_2 as my standard database. Also tell my HUD it should only use database_2 as the source. right?

how do I copy databases?

File --> Backup and backup just the database.

Create a new database via Database -> Database Management and use File -> Restore to restore that backup into your new database. Check to make sure everything looks good, then set the database you want to purge hands from as Active and use Database --> Database Management --> Purge.

1.) so not just the "database name" (second column) should be different, also the database itself under "database info" (third column) should be different too (where it says "Database:"). right?

can post a screenshot if it is not clear what I mean :)

2.) and if I now purge hands in the second database and use this database as default/active when grinding, new hands will just be imported in the purged database, right?

so if I want to have the first (un-purged) database fully complete, I will have to import new hands manually from the "processed" folder, right?

Yes to both questions. No screenshot required :)

EDIT:
I see what the problem is: I didn't changed DB for Import --> Preferences. idiot me

I have done everything you have said and it is also working, but I have still a problem

-the purged DB is now set as "active/default" in the DB management
-in the HUD configuration tab under "HUD Options" I have set the hook on the purged DB
-at the top bar of PT3 it also says correctly: "PokerTracker v3.13.11 beta Database: Walters_PurgedDB"

--> when I started to import, PT3 said I am importing to an other DB as my HUD is referring to, which actually cannot be. But the HUD really did not work correctly.

I tried another way, by not having a hook on any of my databases under "HUD options", because it says when no hook is set, HUD is referring to the DB which is imported to.

--> HUD now works fine

BUT:
somehow, I cannot look up my session any more when I go to "Texas Holdem" --> "Cash Games" --> "General"
no results appear, as If I would have never played the todays session :o
If I filter for the Monday session, everythings normal.

what is going on?

thanks for you help :)
