possibly need to add a 10.0.2.x address to en1 on the mac side then set that as the server IP. not entirely sure how virtualbox NAT works so unsure if this is necessary, but seems the mac host isn't on a 10.0.2.x network

I think there's a typo in _dave_'s post, but I agree that the host and guest are on different networks and that may be causing the problems, especially if you're using NAT (bridged is the way to go imo). What's providing DHCP services (router?) and can this be set to put the host and guest on the same subnet?
