custom stats and cpu performance

Postby Jax9 » Wed Dec 05, 2012 1:22 pm

Hello. I currently am running

Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
intel core2 quad q9650 3.0 GHz
12 gb ddr2-800 memory
crucial c300 240gb ssd

I use postgres 8.3. I tried 9.0 about a year ago, but could not get it to run properly so I went back to 8.3.

I made 224 custom stats and have most of them in a custom hud. On normal speed tables, because pt has more time to register what is going on, the hud works fairly well. It does take a few hands to load up, but once it is up it is usually gtg. However when I play zoom tables, it is virtually unusable. The amount of lag time it takes for the hud to pop up renders my great hud essentially useless. The hud does pop up and work approximently ever other hand, but obviously we need the hud every single hand. It seems very close to working perfectly but it is just a bit too slow.

My question is, if I purchase a brand new computer with all the latest greatest components and upgrade to postgres 9 to take advantage of the ram increases, will I be able to use my hud for zoom poker? If you think this is possible, will you please recommend a good new setup that should do the job? TY

I can't say for certain but I can say that even on your current setup upgrading to 9.0 should definitely help. The easiest way to do this would be to backup your database via File -> Backup in PT4, completely remove PostgreSL 8.3 then install 9.0-x64 from this link and it should be a fairly straightforward install.

That will let you use the extra RAM you have now and we can see how much of a boost that gives you.

Let us know jax, curious how custom stats are affected.

My experience is that upgrading to Postgres 9.0 makes no difference, but would like to be shown / proven wrong.

After upgrading you do need to make sure that the 9.0 database is set as the PT4 default (you can tell by seeing that 9.0 is listed in the Database Management window) and then running Database Tuning - without running Tuning you can't take advantage of that extra RAM.

Housekeeping option? Did it.

Like I said, no change. Will wait to see what OP comes back with.

Have noticed a huge improvement when importing a large number of hands and files, when starting up PT4 after running the poker client.

The import in reverse order date in latest beta cuts down my CPU lagging from 30 seconds to about 5, which is more then enough time to finish playing the tables.

Works well.
