Notetracker - Two questions and two suggestions

Postby pepsin » Fri Feb 15, 2013 12:46 pm

Hi, I'm starting to get into notetracker. Two questions:

When I'm playing HU and I want the note to be for button (or smallblind depending on how you define), which number would that be - 0 or 9? Would both 0 and 9 work?
When I'm using a variable like cardrange, will the note still show how many times the situation occurs (like notecaddy)?

Two features I'm really missing when testing is hand filtering options and the possibility of playing the hand that is displayed in the test results. Otherwise, unless you remember the hand you can never be sure if the note is actually applied to the kind of situation you'd designed the note for.

The small blind is always 9, even if the small blind is in position. You could also use Actions & Opportunities -> Preflop -> Posted Small Blind if that's easier for you to keep track of.

If {cardrange} is used it will only show you the cards used when the actions occurred and the hand got to showdown. We have plans to expand on this functionality but I don't know when they'll be ready.

You can replay the hands on the Test screen by double clicking (or right click -> replay hand or replay all hands) just as you can any hand report. One useful way I found to test was to filter to specific hands in a main report and tag them, then select the tag in question in the NoteTracker window and that way I could quickly pick out a few hands I wanted to test on.

So if I understand correctly this means I don't get any percentages/fractions if I'm using a variable? If so, do I need to create two different notes to get both range and percentage/fraction?

You won't get any percentages/fractions in notes at all - that would be a stat rather than a note.
You could of course build a second note to count opportunities if you like, but if you include the cardrange variable then it will only include hands which went to showdown (because that is the only time we know what the cards are).

Ok, so if I would for instance figure out how often a player raise a paired board vs me HU this would rather be a stat I construct for the HUD? What I would love was the ability to both see how often this happen + construct a range for which hands villain does this.

If you want to see it as a percentage then you'd need to make a custom stat, yes. To see the hole cards a player took this action with you would need to use a NoteTracker note.

I tried to make the stat with paired board mentioned, but then as far as I can see no stats mentioning the board exist. For that I would need the cash filters and those can't be included in a stat right? If I'm not missing anything this seem a bit odd..?

I believe there are some stats based on paired boards in the Download Warehouse - take a look at how those are built to get started.
The Custom Statistics Guide gives an introduction to working with custom stats. The Tutorial: Custom Reports and Statistics was written for PT3 but the principals are the same and this goes into much more detail.
If you need more help building the stat please post back exactly what situations you want to count and we'll help you out.

Yeah I found one in the download warehouse about cbetting a paired board. So there exists a column for cbetting a paired board and a column for opportunity to cbet a paired board. So I could create a stat for me when I cbet a paired board and face a raise. But I want it the other way around, I want the stat to be applied to the villain who raises a paired board, not me. Then i would need a function saying "facing raise on paired board" and I can't seem to make that one. This is why I feel a graphical interface like the quickfilter would work so well, I could easily create this stat there.

With that being said, thanks for all your help so far. Fwiw, I've messing around a lot with both PT4 and HM2 and PT4 is so much better in every aspect, maybe except for the notetracker compared to notecaddy, but then it's free..

Stats work from any player's point of view - they don't treat "you" any different to any other player, but I know what you mean. You will need to change the actions which are being checked for.
The "paired board" part of the expressions will be the same, but you'd want to add that to a pair of columns counting the number of times a player raises a CBet and faces a CBet (assuming that is the situation you want to count).

There is a built-in stat called "Raise F CBet", which does that, so you'd want to make copies of the columns it uses (cnt_f_cbet_def_action_raise and cnt_f_cbet_def_opp) and include the check for a paired board.
