Which version of PostgreSQL should we be using? And more...

Postby HondaKid » Fri May 24, 2013 11:41 pm

See my attached screenshots from my Application Folder to see what files I have as well.

There is some confusion in my mind regarding PostgreSQL, what version we OSX users should have installed and be using. Perhaps this is why I have issues every few months in using PT3 and now PT4? See my other post from today in this forum regarding another matter I am experiencing and perhaps all this is related.

In Terminal it shows the following PostgreSQL (8.4 and 9.0) as being installed:

Mizu-5:~ dazza$ ls /Library/PostgreSQL/
8.4 EnterpriseDB-ApachePhp pgJDBC
9.0 Npgsql psqlODBC
Mizu-5:~ dazza$

Should I uninstall both of these versions and reinstall a fresh PostgreSQL version? As I have over 10,000 hands it would be nice to retain these hands. The latest PostgreSQL currently is 9.3, do we want this? PT4 is terrific, vastly improved and I think the issues I am experiencing might be abnormal really.

We currently recommend PostgreSQL 9.0.

(Both 9.1 and 9.2 are known to have problems which affect PokerTracker and should not be used. I would not suggest getting 9.3 either until this is well established and we can determine that there are no problems with it - initially there are likely to be.)

There is no problem having both 8.4 and 9.0 installed as long as they are either installed on separate ports or only started separately.
You can see which port and which service PT3 and PT4 are using via Database > Database Management.

I am indeed using 8.4.9, it appears updating to 9.0 is the best option here and I will do so after the 31st (the May grind on PS is $$$). Thanks for the assistance.
