What files do I need to backup?

Postby gav01 » Tue Jun 04, 2013 7:05 am

Say my PC crashes and I have to restore to factory settings - everything will be wiped and I will have to reinstall PT, but when reinstalled it will be missing all my hand details. So what files should I save to an external hard drive or memory stick, so that when my PC crashes and I have to reinstall PT I will also be able to restore my hand details? It would appear that most info is contained within programfiles/postgreSQL/9.0/data/base - is this the folder to be copied to an external hard drive or memory stick or the entire postgreSQL folder? Hope that makes sense.

At the top, go to Database -> Database management. Press the "Backup..." button. On the left side select the databases you want to backup. Be sure to check the PokerTracker Config File checkbox or all your PT4 settings such as HUDs and reports will be lost forever. Then press Backup Now. The backup file will be about 1/20th of the size of the database (because it is highly compressed), but you will need spare space on your drive equivalent to the size of your database or more.

Actually, I'm not sure what the pokertracker config file backs up. But you should probably tick it anyway.

Really for that kind of backup you want to tick all of the Optional Files. They really don't change the size that much - text files compress very well (which is that most of the Optional Files are).
