You need to edit the postgresql.conf to remove the # in front of listen_addresses = '*' and save it. The last line you added there won't change anything -- any line starting with a # isn't interpreted.

In pg_hba.conf instead of the line you added, add these instead:

host all all 192.168.0.0/24 trust
host all all 172.116.113.0/24 trust
host all all 172.116.188.0/24 trust

Save it then restart your computer and let me know if things work better for you then.

You forgot the last ' in:
listen_addresses = '*'

The quotes need to be closed. Add that, save the file, restart the computer again and let me know if you still have trouble. If you do, if you could also post a screenshot of Console that would help (you can find it in Applications -> Utilities).

Deleting the postgres user will cause PostgreSQL to stop working.

The easiest way to fix that is to reinstall it per our guide here.

As long as you didn't delete your data folder, your database is fine. It's just the easiest way to recreate the user is to re-run the installer. Do not delete your data directory first -- that would cause you to lose your database.
