PostgreSQL fails to reinstall

Postby LucasGrijander » Sun Jan 19, 2014 6:30 am

hello
I have Windows VISTA and 32 bits system

I had previously installed PT 3 which I purchased some years ago. It was working properly
I have not been playing poker for a while so I removed/uninstalled the PostgreSQl from my PC

Now trying to reinstall I am having so many difficulties that can not go ahead.

A) Installing automatically with Poker Tracker:
Installation process stop at "Service 'PostgreSQL Database Server 8.3" (pgsql-8.3) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

b) Installing Postgre manually:

I got this error pop up but with PT3 .

To be honest this PostgreSQL software can not be managed by a normal, non-advanced user. It requires an expert software technician. I find it way too complicated to deal with.

Please can you assist me to reinstall Postgre to work together with PT3?
Thank you

You will need to fully uninstall PostgreSQL before it can be reinstalled - follow the guide here to do that.
If you're starting again with a new database I would advise installing PostgreSQL 9.0 as that will give better performance than 8.3.

hello Whiterider, thanks for your reply

I am still using Poker Tracker version 3, I thought this version can only works with 8.3 or 8.4 Postgresql, not 9.0

I want to keep still using PT version 3 until I make some more money at poker tables and then upgrade to PT4.

Both versions 8.3 and 8.4 I have installed/uninstalled manually following your guides, with no success.

PT3 will work just fine with PostgreSQL 9.0. (Do not install anything later than that though.)

Make sure you fully uninstall before you try to install again. If any step fails during the uninstall, tell us what happened?

hello

Once again I have fully uninstalled the previous version of PostgreSQL (including user account and directories, according to your guide)
Then installed Postgre v 9.0.
Run Poker Tracker 3.

I got this window with error message:

Were there any problems during the uninstall or reinstall?

Click 'Start' and type 'services' and open the Services window.
Do you see PostgreSQL in the list?
Is it started, or can you start it?

yes, there was an error message while installing Postgre. HEre it is:

Translation from spanish:

"A non-critical error happened while saving modules in the database.
Please verify the instalation file at C:___________ for details"

In the services Windows, the Postgre does appear and it is not started. While trying to initiate it does not work because it stops shortly after.

I am assisted through a support ticket.

Please try creating a new directory on the root of the C drive (like C:\PostgreSQL\) and installing PostgreSQL there; that can fix that error sometimes.
