Backdoor Flush Draw Strength

Postby whiskyjohn » Thu Feb 13, 2014 5:45 pm

Hello,

Is it possible to filter for Backdoor Nut Flush Draws?

I tried to combine "Backdoor Flush Draw" with "Flush Draw Strength Nut Flush Draw" but it
seems the strength filter does not consider backdoor flush draws.

If this is not possible currently, may I suggest this feature be added to a future release?
Sometimes an opponent may continue with a weak hand containing a backdoor flush draw
to the nuts and I would like to filter for this case.

Thanks for any info,
John

If you add a filter for backdoor flush draw and nut flush draw on the turn that should match all cases we know about; if your opponent folds, we don't know his cards after all and the only times he gets to showdown we'll already know that he indeed turned the flush draw.

No, that's not quite right kraada because the turn card will, in general, take away any chance for a nut flush draw.

For example:
PlayerA: Kh6s
Board: AhJd5hKd

On the flop, PlayerA has a backdoor nut flush draw. On the turn, the Kd killed all of PlayerA's flush draws.
If the turn had been any heart, then your filter rule works. But I would like to look for cases on the flop
where a player has a backdoor nut flush draw REGARDLESS of what comes on the turn.

I don't think there is a way to do what I want using the current filter rules, but it would be nice if
Backdoor Flush Draws had their own BackDoor Flush Draw strength options.

As I noted before, some players can call very thin, with a combination of overcards, gutshots,
and backdoor flush draws. It would be nice to filter some of these weak calls more precisely.

I don't think there is any "strength" associated with backdoor flush draws in the database.

That's not surprising, but you do have a filter for backdoor flush draws, so with a little extra work I imagine a
strength could be associated to it.

The thing is, all kinds of crazy hands qualify for backdoor flush draws, far more than flush draws, so it is not desirable
just to lump them all together and treat them equally. Certainly a backdoor flush draw to the nuts (or second nuts)
deserves special consideration. When combined with other types of draws, these hands probably deserve a bet or a
call where a truly weak hand with a weak backdoor draw should fold.

Any chance of this feature being included?

I will pass your request on to the development team for consideration.
