about restore a database

Postby derek58 » Sat Nov 29, 2014 10:32 am

Hello, I did a format to my pc, I installed PT4, created a new database, and choose to restore my backup database zip file.
The restore took over 20 hours (1.5M hands, i5 proccesor, 4GB RAM) is it normal?
This photo is during the restoring, which the "processed hands" option took the most time. http://oi60.tinypic.com/2m6rcky.jpg
Finaly when the restore ended, I thought I was ready but I didn't see any hands imported.
So I choose to import hands from disk, I found the Processed Hands folder path, and now I am importing hands from there.
Is this the right way to import the hands after a format?
Is the big number of errors and duplicates a problem? http://oi59.tinypic.com/547t3q.jpg
Thank you and sorry for so many answers.

It looks like you may have had more hands in your \Processed folder than in the database you backed up. This would explain why this part of the restore took the longest time and why the majority of those hands are not all importing as duplicates now. The duplicates are not a problem as they get skipped although they will slow the imports. The 68 errors on the 72,290 hands imported in your screenshot is not a major problem on such a big sample either since you will likely have some incomplete hands in a sample that large.

Thanks for the answer. I finished with the import of the processed hands and now I have 170k in my database. I had about 1.5M hands. These hands are till june / 2013. After this date I have no imported hands. Almost 1,5 years of hands are missing. Is there somewhere else or I have to request hand history from the poker sites I am playing?

The processed folder by default separates hands by Poker Site and Date. Do you have any "2014" folders in your \Processed\[SITE_NAME] folders?

Have you checked all your individual site player names in PokerTracker 4? Click on the "Player:" dropdown in PokerTracker 4 and select "<Choose New Player...>". Type the player name you are looking for, select it and press OK. Alternatively you can use right-click -> Change Active Player.

Guide: Changing the Active Player

If you want to view all your hands together you would need to create an alias.

If you are missing hands then some sites like PokerStars and Full Tilt can provide you with all your old hand histories which you can then import into PokerTracker 4.

I just notice something. In the path c:/users/app data/local/pokerstars.eu/processed hands are not all the hands that there are at my rar/zip backup file. For example in the pokerstars folder there only one folder with name 2013 in the first path and at my backup file there is one more with name 2014. So I am happy now that I know that my hands exists. What is better to do now? Import the hands from the backup file folder called processed hands? I thought that the restore database option at PT4 would do that. Maybe a restart of my pc for windows updates during I was sleeping made the problem that there aren't all the hands at the path c/users/app data etc ?

You are right. There are a lot of hands of 2014 when I change active player. I think that only pokerstars hands missing from june 2013. Before format I had combined the alias to see the sum results of all networks. Probably I have to do it again after I finish with the pokerstars hand importing.

Hopefully you will be sorted when you finish that import and configure your alias.

However please note that you should not keep your processed folder in this location. By default PokerTracker 4 moves your processed hand histories to your C:\Users\SOME_NAME\AppData\Local\PokerTracker 4\Processed folder and not a PokerStars directory.

Guide: Processed Files

You can change which folder the files are moved to but it is very important that the 'processed' folder is completely separate from any sites and folders which you auto import from. To avoid any future issues please ensure PokerTracker 4 is not configured to move processed files to any folders inside PokerStars or any other Poker Site folders.
