Database Restore from a Windows comp to a Mac

Postby supersplitz » Sun Jan 25, 2015 9:23 am

Hi,

Before I left my Windows based desktop at home I backed up my database and then uploaded it to google drive. I then bought a Macbook Pro and am trying to restore the database on my new computer but am occuring some problems.

When I go to restore the file it won’t let me select the zipped folder. I don’t know if this is a Mac thing or what so I compressed the file again so it was back in Zip file that PT4 would recognize and click on it to restore it it gives me this: “Invalid TOC”.

Any help in solving this matter would greatly be appreciated!

Don't uncompress the file - the backup file is the zip file - choose the zip file without extracting and it should work.

Aghh it almost worked… I chose the unpacked zip file and the restore part mostly went through (the very lengthy part at least) but then I received these errors when it finished and it didn’t complete. Any suggestions?

That suggests that PostgreSQL is not installed in the default location. Click 'Search for File' and navigate to where the "psql" file is in your Mac's PostgreSQL installation.
It looks like the first part of the second message is listing the incorrect Windows path (I'll talk to the development team about that, but the path in the second paragraph refers to the default Mac path, but you need to navigate to wherever you installed PostgreSQL to and select the "psql" file.

I think I just realized what happened..
You probably restored a backup including the PokerTracker.cfg file, which includes information about your Windows system, including paths like the PostgreSQL installation path. If you select the file as I suggested above that will correct the problem - it will probably be in the default location, although that will likely be 9.3 instead of 9.0.

For future reference, when restoring to a different operating system you should not transfer the PokerTracker.cfg file as it will cause problems like this.

Ok thank you for the response :)

Unfortunately, when I went to restore it again it made it through the whole process but then when I went to select the file it crashed…

But then when I restarted the software, all of my filters and HUDS were installed but none of the old hand histories.

Is there a way to just process my old hand histories through my new database? Bc that’s all I really care about.

Also, side note, the software has been crashing a lot. It crashed every time I went to change the font in my HUD profiles. It wouldn’t let me select the “…” next to the font then just crashed.

Anyways, thanks for your help. Almost there!

Upgrade to 4.13 if you haven't already. Do the restore one more time but untick all of the optional files and just leave the database ticked and that might work better.

OK will do, also was wondering if I could just unzip my backup file and then just select the processed HH’s from there. Would that work?

Shouldn’t I keep “Processed Hands” clicked?

I tried what you recommended, then searched and selected for psql file and got another error.

All I really want to do is upload my old hands. Don’t really care about the old database. Is there an easier way to do this?

Thanks
