Players not in hand history ignored in tournament summary?

Postby lexplex » Sun Aug 09, 2015 10:00 pm

I recently requested from Pokerstars a number of tournament summaries for 2-table SNGs. Although I do have them saved for me automatically as I play, they are usually incomplete (unless I finish first or second) with some players marked as "still playing" in the summary. By requesting them after the tournament is complete, I get finish information for every player. I have found, however, that importing these complete summaries does not fully update the finishes and prizes in Pokertracker. I believe Pokertracker is showing results for only those players found in my hand history for the tournament. So if I or another player bust without having played a hand together at the same table, Pokertracker ignores that player, even though they are listed in the Tournament Summary. This ends up distorting my results data on other players.

I have tried checking "Overwrite Data" in the 'Tournaments' section of 'Import Options', but it doesn't solve this problem.

Is there a solution?

It should be recording the results for those players, although if you don't have any hands on them at all in your database you won't see their data in some cases. Can you tell us where you're checking this data so that we can confirm for you?

Thanks for your reply.

Under the Results tab, I get a list of tournaments. Right-clicking on one and selecting Edit Tournament brings up a window with a table of Results (i.e. Finish, Player, Prize Won, etc.). Even though the tournament had 18 entrants, and 4 positions paid, this table only has 9 rows, corresponding to the 9 players at the table I played (I was second to bust, so didn't play a hand against anyone from the other table.) The players at the other table included several regs with whom I have played many hands in other tournaments, so they show up elsewhere in PokerTracker, just not for tournaments like this where we never played at the same table.

The finish information for the 9 players it does show appears to be accurate -- the problem is just that there are rows missing.

I hope that's clear. Let me know if you need more information.

I am running PT 4.14.

I believe that report only lists players that you have hands for, and I would have expected it to have imported the results of the other players but I will need to check with the development team exactly what the intended behaviour is. I just tried it myself and it seems to be importing results for players who have hands in the database (from this tournament or any others), but not those without hands at all. I think that this is the intention (to avoid bloating the database with names of players you don't have any hand data about - if you play a tournament with several thousand players there is no point adding all of those players to the database for example).

That would make sense, but as I wrote above, I do have hands on many of the missing players, and they are already in the database. If I can only track the finishes of players for tournaments in which we were seated at the same table, it distorts my data on their performance by making it dependent on my own. For example, the further I get in a tournament myself, the more players I play against, and the more of their finishes appear. Or, worse, if another player busts early, so I don't get to play him directly, that finish of his is ignored. This messes up all the tournament data in the player reports.

To illustrate: I just investigated one player whom I have been in at least six tournaments with, according to my Pokerstars summaries. He cashed in just one of those, and busted fairly early in the rest. Because of his early busts (and my own) we only played hands together in two tournaments. One of those was the one he cashed in. And so in my all players report, he shows up as having played two tournaments with an ITM of 50%, when this should be six tournaments with an ITM of 16.7%. So this systematic dropping of data when players bust early inflates their ITM, and similarly distorts other tournament stats.

Of course, if you have specifically tested a summary import for a case where you have no hands with that opponent in that tournament, but do have other hands for them in the database, and found that it successfully updates their finish for the handless tournament, then you are definitely getting a different result than I am. In that case I may have to send you some screenshots, logs, etc via a support ticket to demonstrate the problem at my end.

Please do send us that detail - that's the best way for us to make sure this gets investigated and is working properly.
