Screen Lock-up playing stars tourneys, V2

First off, I'm still running PT2 but, since I can't find any tech link for V2, I'm posting it here. (Where's the link for V2 support?)

For about the last 3 months, while I'm playing two or three PokerStars Tourneys at a time, the entire screen locks up. This will last for from 15 to 45 seconds then everything will be fine. It usually occurs when I've just opened or closed a Stars screen, such as "Tournament Lobby", or when a new tourney was just opening. It's mostly just irritating but has cost me the ability to complete a hand on quite a few occasions. It typically doesn't start until I've been playing about 20 minutes.

CPU usage is running, almost constantly, at 100% with PT and PAH running with flicker free checked. My system isn't brand new but has always been adequate in the past. Pentium 4 and 512 m ram. Even before this problem started, it usually was running near or at 100% and didn't cause any problems. Not a lot of extra programs or processes running in background.

I'm running the latest version of PT2 and using the SQL database.

It occurred to me that the problem might be in the Stars hardware but I've queried other players through table chat, as to whether any of them are having problems and they don't seem to be so I think the problem is in PT/PAH.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you are also using PokerAce, leave it turned off and just use PT and PokerStars and see how it reacts without PA running to see if that is causing the problem.

In the link you suggested, numbers one and two don't apply. In three, you state:

3. If you are using the Game Time window or an external program like GameTime+ or PokerAce HUD, make sure that you use the option "Do not include my stats" so that it doesn't try to retrieve all of your stats to display or use in the table averages. This is along the lines of #2 above in that using your stats causes it to take longer to refresh.

You don't state whether this is in PT or PAH so I checked both and can't find this option. Please advise as to where it is and in which application.

Those are options in PA/GT+. That is why I asked you to leave PokerAce out of the equation to determine if there is something in that program which could be causing it.

OK, first off, I am NOT running GT+ . I thought I'd made this clear in my initial post but apparently I didn't.

I've now had two tourney sessions where I ran only PT for the first 30 hands or so and the same thing happens but the delays are only about 15 seconds when the lockups occur. That's a pain in the ass but tolerable. CPU usage shows as mostly 100% running PT alone. As soon as I turn on PAH, The lockups take up to 1 minute to release and this has caused me to be folded by Stars on several occasions. PAH apparently pushes the CPU over the edge.

I know, from past experience, that PAH is a resours hog, especially with the flicker free checked but I hope you'll be able to show me a way to correct this. Please advise.

I never said you were using GT+ did I? I said that option #3 you asked about was for GT+/PA users and I wanted you to run the program without PokerAce running.

Close PokerAce and restart PT so that just PT and the site software is running.

Click the Enable Logging link on the auto-import window and start the timer.
Play about 30 hands again. After that, click the View Log link on the auto-import window and copy/paste the text of the log file into a reply.

This is so that I can see what the auto-import is doing in PT.

I won't be able to help with the PokerAce issue, that would have to be posted in the PA forum but don't do that until I see what PT is doing.

Use the Utilities > PostgreSQL Database Functions window to do a FULL vacuum/analyze on this database. It shouldn't be taking so long to load just a few hands like this.

If that doesn't help with the speed, do a backup of this PostgreSQL database and then let me know the size of the .backup file so I can tell you how to send it to me and I'll check to see if there is an issue with the indexes or something.

I did the "Full Analyze" routine you suggested and it didn't help much. Seemed to be running well, first hour or so; then Stars folded my pkt Q's when I couldn't respond, due to another lockup.

I've backed up the database and it's just over 125 MB. Let me know where and how to send it. Thanks.
