Backup issue !

Postby asbos » Thu Oct 03, 2019 10:03 am

Hello I want some advice on the following problem. My ssd crushed and I have to replace it so I am trying to move everything PT4 related from the "bad" ssd to somewhere else so I can plug in the new one install pt4 and import everything there. The problem is that while I am logging in my damaged ssd if I try to run pt4's backup procedure it crashes way before it ends so I wonder if there is a way that I can maybe manually take all the filters/reports/configurations/huds but most importantly all the hand-histories and pt4 database and copy/paste them somewhere and import those afterwards in a new disk. Thank you in advance.

You can reimport from the original hand history files in the processed folder:

C:\Users\{Windows Login}\AppData\Local\PokerTracker 4\Processed

Custom HUD profiles, reports and filters are stored here:

C:\Users\{Windows Login}\AppData\Local\PokerTracker 4\Data

If you want to try and recover the database directly without reimporting you need to transfer the PostgreSQL 'Data' folder and then reinstall the same version of PostgreSQL but there's no guarantee that will work.

hey thanx for the answer, I eventually managed to create that backup file without my pc crushing so I now got this, so now after I installet PT4 in a brand new ssd disk and moved that backup file there, whenever I try to restore the file PT4 just goes non-responding mode before even startin the procedure for infinte time, any clue on what should I do ?

It's normal for PokerTracker 4 not to respond while it's busy restoring a database backup and you can verify things are working by looking at the PostgreSQL processes in task manager. Depending on the size of your database it may take sometime to restore but if you restart the restore with 'Processed Hands' unchecked it should proceed much faster if you originally included them in your backup. If that's not the issue then please enable logging, reproduce this problem and then send your log file to us in a Support Ticket.

All those dots are during the restoration of processed hands which is an option I suggested that you should not have enabled. Since your database is over 30GB that means you will have lots of individual hand history files so if the restore is still running you can cancel it and try again with the 'Processed Hands' option unchecked. Processed hands are not required for your database to restore - they are the original hand history files and are only needed should you ever need to re-import them again to a new database. You can also extract them manually from the backup file if you ever need to use them again.
