"Unable to connect to this database" error message. on Mac

Postby Trafford95 » Mon May 25, 2020 11:32 am

Hello everyone,

I'm using PT4 for almost 4 years now and Im very satisfied. Im using a Macbook air el capitan 2015.

A few weeks ago, after I clicked on the app to start it, PT4 asked me to enter again my license number. I searched in my emails and entered my license number.

After that I was unable to open PT4 anymore. Anytime I would launch PT4 I would get a window named "Configure PostgreSQL Server" (see screenshot attached).

Then when I press connect I get a error message : "Unable to connect to this database. Please check the configuration".

I have search on the forum for similar problems on the forum and found quite similar cases but none of solutions given worked for my case...

Sorry if I'm not very good for explaining the problem but I am quite a beginner in computer things and I really need my HUD and my database to play.

Thank you for your help,

Have you done something recently to PostgreSQL such as trying to partially uninstall it, changing permissions on any of its folders, shutting down your computer unexpectedly, or maybe deleting the "postgres" user from your Mac login screen? Do you see PostgreSQL in your Applications folder? Confirm where your PostgreSQL is, probably here:

/Library/PostgreSQL/x.y

"x.y" will be two numbers such as "8.4", "9.0", etc.

Open a terminal in "Utilities".  In the terminal window copy/paste this:

sudo rm /Library/PostgreSQL/x.y/data/postmaster.pid

Substitute the "x.y" in that command with the correct version.

You want to delete "postmaster.pid" so answer "y" if the command finds it.

Next reboot, press/hold the "Alt/Option" key while starting PokerTracker 4 to enable logging.

If PokerTracker 4 still cannot connect to PostgreSQL please send these files to us in a Support Ticket:

--> /Users/{Mac Login}/Library/Application Support/PokerTracker 4/PokerTracker4.log

--> The newest 3 or 4 PostgreSQL log files (look for "Mac" in the guide):

Guide: PostgreSQL log files

Note in that guide how to properly set and reset the PostgreSQL folder permissions - if the permissions aren't correctly restored PostgreSQL won't be able to restart.

Im sorry I don't understand what to do when you say "open a terminal in utilities".

Attached is what I see when I open /Library/PostgreSQL/9.3

Actually I think I found out what you meant by utilities and found terminal in launchpad.

So I pasted/entered : /Library/PostgreSQL/9.3/data/postmaster.pid in the terminal but it didn't change nothing. Then I tried without the "postmaster.pid" and didn't change nothing as well.

Also when I launched PT4 holding ALT it says : PokerTracker loggin has been enabled.

Do you know if I may have done something wrong ?

Im sorry it's all like a different language for me,

Thank you for you help,

Press/hold the "Alt/Option" key while starting PokerTracker 4 to enable logging and then send these files to us in a Support Ticket where a technician can assist:

--> /Users/{Mac Login}/Library/Application Support/PokerTracker 4/PokerTracker4.log

--> Your newest 3 or 4 PostgreSQL log files (look for "Mac" in the guide):
