Open "My Computer" and browse to your PostgreSQL bin directory which is typically:

C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\bin

Double click pgAdmin3. Once pgAdmin launches, double-click "PostgreSQL Database Server..." on the left hand side.

Expand "Login Roles". What is listed under Login Roles? Select the Login Role listed and tell me what is displayed in the "Properties" tab in the right pane.

Best regards,

Derek

I believe a good number of the postgresql problems would be avoided if people used the default name 'postgres' for the service / super user. At a guess I'd say the postgresql.msi installer is having trouble changing everything to support a different name.

As I mentioned in the other thread. :)

In the next version, if the user wants to use a service/database user name other than "postgres", they have to run the PostgreSQL installation themselves. PT3 won't allow it to be changed. It is creating too many problems with very little to no benefit.

Excellent.

imo one needs a *very* good reason and enough experience to fix resulting problems if there is a valid reason to use another superuser name.

PT3 must still be able to operate under a non-superuser account of course - but I doubt that will be a problem (or cause as many problems as this).

I reinstalled w/ the default name and pass. I got the basic localhost error, uninstalled, deleted the folder and ran a command I found on a different thread. I then re-installed with the default name and it works fine. Thanks!
