Pokerstars shutting down when I join table

Postby James1 » Sat Aug 22, 2020 11:16 am

Hi!

Since I started with PT4 (30k hands ago) about 60% of the time when I join a table the Stars client shut down. I maintain my seat but have to log in as fast as I can to have the tables pop up again. Pre-PT4 this never happened. I am using MAC OS High Sierra 10.13.6
Any idea what could be changed?

(it does not shut down when the seat is reserved but when the actual buy in occurs)

Best regards
/James

PT4 really shouldn't be interfering with the PokerStars application like that - especially on macOS different applications can't interact, so that seems strange.
Hvae you tried it without PT4 running since you started using PT4?
You could try uninstalling and re-installing the PokerStars app to see if that helps.

I have had this exact same experience. I am pretty new to Poker but I played for about 3 weeks on PokerStars before deciding to purchase PokerTracker4. As soon as I started using it, I started having the exact same experience as James. About half the time I join a table, the Stars client completely shuts down. I contacted PokerStars support and received this response (note that this did not solve the problem):

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your follow-up.

It seems that your settings file is corrupt and is affecting the functionality of our software.

In an effort to solve this, please rename the user.ini file. To locate it, please follow:

Locate the user file by selecting 'Finder'.
Press on the menu bar at the top of your screen.
Choose 'Go'
Select 'Go to Folder...',
Type the following or copy/paste into the area provided and press 'Enter':
~/Library/Preferences
Locate and rename the file that ends in 'user.ini' (it can be renamed 'user-old').

Should you be unable to find the 'Library' folder, this is due to the fact that Mac OS Lion and newer now hides this folder:

Please launch 'Terminal' from 'Spotlight' (Spotlight can be found in the top-right of the menu bar or press the 'Command + Space bar' key combination)
Enter the following command to show the directory:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
Press 'Enter'

This will show the Library folders in the finder so that you can search for the file we mentioned, and rename it once found.

Finally, to complete the process, restart your computer.

Once restarted, please open our software and try again.

Please come back to us if the issue persists.

I have also had some other problems with my Stars client. I'm curious to know if James has had the same issues:

- Unable to save villain labels
- Trouble saving settings/preferences (in particular my sound preferences do not seem to save).

I thought it probably had something to do with PT4. Since James is having these same issues I strongly believe that it is.

Best,
Michael

That is interesting Michael! Thanks for your response.

Regarding notes and labels I lose them whenever Stars crash (if I made the note or label in the stars client the same session as the crash, the labels and notes on the HUD are still saved so I use the labels and notes on the HUD all the time now instead)

Also changes to settings and preferences in the stars client are removed if they were made in the same session as the crash. Old settings for me are saved except one time when they were strangely removed after a crash. Not all of them like 4 color deck etc. but most settings were just put back to default so I had to do them all again. But like I said this only happened once.

I also have one other problem and that is that the HUD does not want to come back if I manually leave a table and then manually enter the same table some time later. (Note this is not related to the client crash). Even if I try to stop and relaunch the HUD etc it won’t simply come back. Under “view active tables” it says HUD loading but it never finishes.

Thanks also for your response whiterider. I think I tried to play without pt4 active but I will try it again to be sure.

I believe that the PokerStars software only saves changes to configuration when it is closed down, so if it crashes before that happens then any unsaved changes would be lost.

Hi again!

I have now tried to run stars with PT4 totally shut down. The same error happens. The stars client has also updated at least a few times but no improvements.
Now I am 100% that this started to happen after installing pt4 since I have played many thousands of hands both before and after. So question is what in the installation process could have triggered this error. Could it be something with some Postgresql or something with new name or what could trigger this? As I see it there must be something and it seems from this thread like it has happened to others also. I just installed pt4 according to recommendations.

best regards

It's possible that PokerStars is having a problem when it tries to write seating files. I remember this coming up before but I can't find the full details right now. There are a couple of things you can try.

1) Turn off the new Aurora graphics in PokerStars, if you're using it.
To do that go to Settings > Table Appearance > Table Graphics. Disable the checkbox, and restart PokerStars.

See if you still have the problem. If (and only if) you do, then:

2) In PT4 go to Configure > Sites & Import Options > PokerStars and turn off the Zoom HUD option, and close PT4 down again.
Uninstall PokerStars (drag PokerStars from Applications to the Trash), and then re-install it.

Please let us know whether or not either of these resolved the problem for you?

Hi!

Yes it seems like shutting off the graphics engine did the trick. However the graphics is now bad so it's not a good option for me. I have also informed the stars support. (I actually sent them log files ages ago but no response)
