setting up PT3 on a second computer

If I wanted to copy the hand histories from my laptop to my home p.c., how would I go about doing that? I tried exporting my database from the laptop but I couldn't get them imported into the p.c.

If you still have the original hand history files (check the 'move processed files to' folder) just copy those files across to your other computer - network, CD, USB memory stick, etc. - and use Manual Import to import them.

If you don't have the original files, you should be able to export the hand histories from your laptop database. When you exported, did it create files? Did you manage to get them to the other PC? Did you run manual import? What happened?

I'm not exactly sure how it's supposed to work. The export on the laptop was successful. Then I opened up PT3 on the other PC and went to manual import, went to import from directory, and chose the Pokertracker 3 folder. (Same folder that I exported from on my laptop). A few things were imported, but no hands were. I am currently starting the process over again.

Did I screw something up, or does this sound right?

Sounds right, but make sure that 'include subfolders' is included.

i now have postgresSQL and PT3 running on both computers on the network but am still clueless as to how to get the database to display in PT on my laptop.

In the tutorial the final paragraph says "My IP address here is 192.168.1.16, so my server's ip address is the same. Therefore, to log into this database from my other computers in the house the server:port:pass is - 192.168.1.16:5432:dbpass. Substitute your information to access your database from another computer in your local network."

Where do i go to substitute this information?

the only thing i can find is the export function for the hand histories....

I still don't know how to share the database between laptop and pc on the same network despite following the tutorial to the letter. i have transferred the hand histories to the laptop, but i dont want to have to do this every time i play while on my home network, i need the full database accessible from either computer

edit the server's postgres files as per the faq - remember the listen_name; open 5432 on your firewalls including the router.

This is mentioned in the tutorial as well, but the information you need to substitute is the IP address to your computer that you want to connect to (that will be running the main database), the port of where PostgreSQL is installed (default 5432) and the password to PostgreSQL (default dbpass). You can get the ip address by doing the ipconfig command as explained in the tutorial. Hope this helps.

You don't enter it exactly like that. In the box where you connect to your database or create a new database for instance, you will enter the 192.168.1.16 in the server field (if that is the IP of your server, that is), "5432" in the "port" field and "dbpass" would be the password if you installed PostgreSQL with PT3.
