How long does a restore take

Postby siberianex » Sun Nov 28, 2021 7:16 pm

Hi, I did a backup of my PT4 and am now restoring it to a new laptop.
the restore has now been running for over 3 hours. It says the est space required is 7120MB and I have 193186MB space available. How long does it usually run for or should I cancel and start over?

It shouldn't take that long so if it's still restoring processed files you can safely cancel it and restart the restore with 'Processed Hands' unchecked. Processed hands are not required for your database to restore - they are the original hand history files and are only needed should you ever need to re-import them again to a new database. You can also extract them from the backup file if you ever need to use them again.

Im sorry cause I dont speak english that well.

I just restored my database (I changed the computer). After 6h, I searched about this topic cause it was too much time (It a small database. Only like 5000 tournaments).

Now I restored it without the "processed hands" checked, and it took 5 minutes and everything seems to work.

Should I, someday, restore it again with the processed hands for some reason? Or is it something that doesnt have sense to save everytime I do a backup?

By the way. My reports, HUD config and different stuff like that don't appear. Is it normal?

Processed hands are not required for any database to restore - they are the original hand history files provided by your poker site(s) and are only needed should you ever need to re-import them again to a new database. You can also extract them from the backup file if you ever need to use them again:

Guide: Processed Files

You could also configure your 'Processed' folder to archive hands to a custom location so they get saved to the cloud (e.g. Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox e.t.c.) instead of backing them up via PokerTracker 4.

There is a specific option in the backup/restore process for that - 'User Data Files' under 'Optional Files'. If that option wasn't enabled when backing up the original data or when restoring then your custom reports/HUD configuration wouldn't get restored.

Excuse me again. If right now I make a backup (now that I already restored the last one), do I have to save the new processed hands for a future restoration?. Will the future restoration include all the previous hands that I already can see on my PT4 which are not included with the "processed hands" because I had to skip it cause it took too long?

Maybe I will do that if processed hands are necessary. My doubt is still the same: I save the processed hands since today (yesterday I restored the backup), but all the old tournaments will still be on the database if I make a new backup?

By the way, I will never call you lier. Your programme is AWESOME. Probably I missed some step, but I'm pretty sure that everytime I make a Backup, I save all things possible. I don't know what I did wrong and why my custom stats and HUD are not saved. Anyway, it's okay. Thanks!

Also, right now, when I click "get hands while playing", it gets all the hands. But in the "Tournament" label it says always "0". It used to say all the tournaments I played on the session, but it doesnt anymore. I'm playing in PS and Wina.

No you do not have to - it's optional.

Processed hands are not a part of the database being restored. Whether 'Processed Hands' is enabled or not it does not affect the database being restored - they are completely separate files (they are the original hand history files that were provided by your poker site(s)).

If you make a new backup it will include all your old tournaments as well as any that were imported between the new backup and the last backup.

If you look in the backup file is there a folder called 'Optional'? If there is what are the names of the folders inside that?

Can you please attach a screenshot of your entire PokerTracker 4 report window either here or privately in a Support Ticket with a link to this thread so we can see what you are seeing.

As you can see, I played 3 tournaments, but on the bottom left of pokerTraker says "0". I dont really mind about this if it wont bring problems in the future

Inside my "optional" file, I have a "config" folder with all this:
optional_config.PNG
One file named "config" with all this inside

And a "data" folder with all these
optional_data.PNG
A "data" folder with all these inside.

I also have inside "data" folder, HandRange folder, Holdem, Models and a file named PREFLOP choice.

The number in the bottom left is for the number of imported 'Tournament Summaries' which is not the same thing. Some poker sites provide tournament summary files in addition to hand history files however some poker sites do not. For those sites that do not provide tournament summary files then that box will say 0 regardless of how many tournaments were actually played. Also if you are wondering why no hands are being displayed there that's because you are in the cash section of PokerTracker 4 ($). To see new tournament hands that were imported while playing you would need to be in the tournament section (T) instead.

As you have a 'Data' folder this means your custom settings were backed up. Was the same option enabled ('User Data Files' under 'Optional Files') when you did the restore? If not you can run the restore again with everything turned off including databases except for the 'User Data Files' option under 'Optional Files' and that should restore your HUD and report settings from the backup file.

Ah sh***, yes. I couldnt see the hands cause it was clicked in "cash". Sorry.

BTW, I tried to restore the backup but there's no way I can click in "User Data Files". There's no way to click it. Look!:

ultimacaptura.PNG
I unclicked everything, but there are some options that are not available to click. And that includes User Data Files.

But that backup is the one that has that folder! I just checked it. I tried to decompress the zip file, but it doesnt work that way.
