To report back, I played at the beginning of the afternoon under the same conditions; it started ok, then I noticed some slowness, then I had some small freezes, 3 seconds, then later I had a bigger freeze, 13 seconds.

So it seems based on the past 24 hours that it goes from good to worse to unbearable from morning to night; any possible particular reasons, such as conflict with internet line (as traffic increases, garbage not cleaned up (as I only reboot once every 24 hours,...)).

By the way I forgot to mention that the program crashes maybe twice a day with a message "an error has occurred".

Thanks

it seems to me that the lagging gets worse as the number of auto-imported hands gets larger. part of this includes tables that i have closed and new ones that i have opened; the old ones are still in the hh folder, until i close the program and they're all moved.

i guess to test if the lag is related to the poker room and your internet line against time of day congestion, try running the room without pt at all at the times you suspect it'll be bad.

it looks to me that the virtual store set of the postgres in those latest grabs is much more reasonable; i can't read the cpu chart - the jpg's artifacted too much...

how did you get to this? simple hud? default postgres conf files? change postgres version?

i'm a bit confused as to which version of postgres you're running?

i've run beta 14/postgres 8.3 mtt'ing 20 full-tilt hud's with tables opening and closing right, left and centre, and the auto-import firing away like there's no tommorow for 18 hours at a stretch with no program closes, freezes or lags - so i think the auto import thing is a red herring.

what I meant to say is could the freeze be related to internet traffic.
obviously without the hud all works like there's no tomorrow, if I had a trivial internet problem I would not accuse the hud.
so without making any more dumb suggestions, why is the hud making my entire platform including web surfing or excel or whatever getting slower and slower as the days gets by, until midnight when I need to throw my computer through the window and buy another one the next day.
thanks

i uninstalled postgres 8.0 (including deleting the folder and running that little script in the command prompt) and installed version 8.2.9 (I still need PAH). i dumped and restored my db using pgadmin, and then i clustered/vacuumed/analyzed it. i tested the new install using the default hud and it didn't help at all. when i installed the new version my postgres.conf file was restored to the default.

congratulations on your success; i'm jealous. :)

did you maybe install pt with postgres bundled with it? I'm running a dual-core opteron at 2.4GHz with 2GB of RAM, so i think i've got enough juice. I have postgres installed on its own partition --- could that be the problem? PT3 is installed on my OS partition (they're C:\ and D:\).

it's pretty clear i'm having some sort of memory/pagefile/storage issue, given all the I/O activity I see.
