Configure PostgreSQL Server

Postby lickupfool » Sat Jul 12, 2008 4:08 am

To whom it may concern,

I'm trying to run PT3 for the first time and this Configure PostgreSQL Server box pops up. I don't know what to fill it in with. The box that pops up requires server information and the fields are Server, Database User, Port and Password. All the fields appear filled already with localhost, postgres and 5432 respectively. The only one not filled in is password. I retrieved the email I recieved from the postgresql people and entered the password listed. When I then press connect on this box I get the following error: Unable to connect to this database. Please check configuration.

I upgraded my PT2 database previously so that it is now My First Poker Tracker Database (PostgreSQL).

Any thoughts as to how I get past this?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Andrew Clarke

If you don't know what the password is from when you installed postgres originally (dbpass is the default value, try that..) you may need to remove the need for passwords in postgres.

Thanks for the advice.
Your first suggestion didn't work so I attempted to remove the need for a password. Unfortunately once I replace the word md5 with trust and attempted to save I got the following error: Cannot create the C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\data\pg_hba.conffile. Make sure that the path and file name are correct.

Any thoughts on how I should proceed from this impasse?

Thanks again.

Sounds like a permissions problem.
All you poker software, including PT3 needs to be running with administrator rights.

What operating system are you using?
If it's Vista, see here: Tutorial: Vista-How to Disable 'User Account Control' (UAC).

I'm using Vista and I did run PT3 as administrator as it suggests when you try and open the program once it has downloaded. I will try turning off user account control and let you know. Thanks again

Sorry I forgot to update. Was a success. Thank you very much.

I should now switch user account control back on, right?

Glad you got it working.
I *think* you need to leave UAC turned off - or at least that makes it simpler.
I'm not familiar with Vista, but I'm sure someone will explain this..
