postgress dissconnect

Postby DRedstone » Mon Jul 21, 2008 4:53 am

Since this morning postgress experience some kind of problems and disconnect.
This happened before installing the new beta.
So far I restarted the computer and it solves the problem for a while.

Any suggestions? Am thinking of reinstalling postgress.

ok, I uninstalled postgress, downloaded the new PT3 beta + postgress. Restarted the computer and reinstalled PT3.
However PT3 doesn't try to install postgress and simply report an error.
i guess this as something to do with the fact that I still have postgress folders in "program and files" and "my documents".

Is my best choice to delete said folder and reimport all hands again from the processed folder? Or should I attempt to manually install postgress first?

Thanks

you do realise by uninstalling postgres you will lose your databases?

to uninstall fully, use the uninstaller first, then manually delete all postgres folders and sub-folders, then net user postgres /delete from a dos command prompt, then reinstall...

Yeah, I sort of do realize.

I already uninstalled postgress (via the control panel) but am thinking my database stayed intact since both folders still exist. I was hoping I can just reinstall postgress without deleting my database.

So any suggestions?

I do think I have all my old HH saved in the processed folder, so I guess I can just delete all and reimport the old hands.

However, I need a quick fix for the moment, as I'm planning to do a clean install of Windows in a week or so (when I get back home)

ok then; try backing off your database without pt running:

pg_dumpall -U postgres > c:\pgbackup from the postgres bin folder...

then we can see if you can use this when you wack postgres completely...

you know what, what the easiest way to start postgress again? My current database only include the last two month (the processed folder is only 190ish MB)
My full HH database is at home and I will improt all those hands back into PT when I get back home (next week)
so for the next few days I just need an easy quick solution.

Will trashing all postgress files and then reimporting the old HH be easier?
Hell, I might just trash windows and start all over again (am working on an Intel Mac running windows via boothcamp)

Thanks for the help

well if you want the quick and dirty; that'll certainly wack your data... :o if you haven't got time to look at the original problem...?

make sure you delete any postgres folders manually and do a net user postgres /delete from DOS before re-installing - set up a blank db and re-import...

i'm sure bill gates will want to know if you decide to trash windows... ;)

ah, you're on a mac - can you get to a DOS command prompt from your windows shell?
